Sorry, I'm just getting really annoyed...I feel like I am under a microscope. Honestly, why would I want my daughter to FAIL??? | Robin,
Don't mean to hijack your thread but reading this leads me to think I should share this with the group. Sorry if it's long and boring.
I was diagnosed with diabetes during my 8th grade year. Things were so so for that year. It all went to Hades in a handbasket during my freshman year in HS.
The doctor I had at the time of diagnosis was a GP who had no business at all dealing with children or diabetes but Mom trusted him as he had been my doctor since I was born. I was started out on an oral medication (Dymelor) and told to come in every Sat morn for bloodwork. All of those Sat morn readings were in the 300-400 range. I felt miserable all of the time. When I started high school, I would get so tired and sick during the day that I would have to go home. NO one at the school wanted to believe that it was related to my health. They just thought I wanted to leave school early (whatever!!).
The last time Mom came to pick me up I was very sick. Throwing up and needing to go to the bathroom but couldn't. Went straight to the doc's where we were told that it was just a virus and to go home and rest. Next day, I was so sick that I could not even move. Had not used the bathroom in more than 24 hours. Mom came home from work at lunchtime to take me back to the doctor. What she found nearly stopped her heart. I was lying on the bathroom floor where I had stopped to rest while trying to get dressed. Got to the doc's and was sent straight to the ER. Upon arrival, I was diagnosed as being in DKA with a bg level of over 800. Kidneys had almost shut completely down from lack of use. In and out of coma for about 3 days, in hospital for 2 weeks.
When I returned to school, alot of school officials had egg on their faces.
My moral here. DON'T let them run all over you. The most important thing now is Eri's health. Get her better and tell them you will battle with them later.
Sorry for rambling. If I can do anything to help, PLEASE let me know. Love and hugs to you and Eri.
