It could be that your Lantus just isn't working for the full 24 hours in your body like it says it should, and maybe it even has a little peak action in the morning. It's different for everyone, even though it's supposed to be peakless. When do you take your 1 shot just now, at nighttime?
I used to do 1 shot at 11pmish and by 8-9pm onwards the next day my levels would consistently creep up, and then I switched to 2 shots to get more even coverage.
