Well, I am not really completely sure as to why he had thought of it, but I'm glad that he did! I could have been having better control all these years if my other dr's had just told me about it. I know that I was having high bg's practically all the time. Especially the morning (the dawn effect). It has reduced the occurance of unexpected high's, but I still have a lot of work to do to get my bg's at a stable level throughout the day. But, I know when he told me he was putting me on it, the first thing out of my mouth was, "Isn't that a Type 2 medication?" I guess that it is getting more and more popular for Type 1's to be on oral meds along with their insulin.
As far as side effects go, I haven't really experienced anything wierd. I haven't had any gastric problems, thankfully.

I find that my stomach gets queezy really easily, but that is about it. I hope that they can help you deal with the side effects so that they don't make you miserable!

I see you are on quite a lot of it. Have you have had any gastric discomfort as a result of taking it? I started using metformin a few months ago. It is definitely making blood sugar control a lot easier. But I am struggling with the side-effects!
