| pregnancy safety question I was diagnosed with diabetes around the time when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I had been sick and unhealthy not knowing what was wrong, and no doctor thought of checking me.
I guess the pregnancy made my blood sugars skyrocket enough that being hospitalized three times in one week for blood poisoning, flu symptoms and unknown stomach pain all in one week. after all this, a walk in clinic doctor finally tested me for diabetes. (and back to the hospital).
I had a healthy girl, now four and a half years old. now, I remember the risks I was told of when carrying my daughter - high blood sugars would lead to spinal damage of the baby, large growth, etc.
but what I also remembered was the doctor telling me there were high risks of carrying a second child, related to organ/liver or pancreas? damage on type 1 mothers, later in life from carrying a child. I dont' have this doctor anymore, and for the life of me can't find any information similar on the internet. I have never been told I have kidney damage or anything like that, that I can remember.
is there any risks that anyone else is aware of, of pregnancy or the effects of carrying the baby for the type 1 diabetic mother? other than uncontrolled blood sugars on a baby?
Has anyone purposely chosen not to have a child or another child because of their diabetes and health?
