Thumbs down Hot Dogs What A Surprise

I was shocked as I was always told that hot dogs had no carbs. Before we bought them this time we checked all the packages and they contain between 3 and 7 carbs. each.

I suppose it depends on how much the slaughtered animal had in it's gut and what type of animal it was. Do horse bellies hold more grain than pig ones?

I find that's the bread they use. As for the sausages well I don't think they would have much in a way of carbs but they can be of some surprise though.

It is the filler. Cheap hot dogs tend to use more filler and less meat.

Buy better hot dogs.

So, can I eat 8 veggie dogs?

Heather.

We all should be avoiding cheap food. cheap dogs and sweet sausages usually have some corn syrup in them.

Heather, I'm impressed, I could probably only eat 1 veggie hot dog.

There are many varieties of veggie dogs, sausages, etc. Being vegetarian for 22 years I've had plenty. Once you load 'em up with cheese, veggie chili, mustard, and so on it doesn't really matter much what the thing tasted like by itself, but I like 'em plain too.

Lately, since I have the whole T2 thing going on - I just skip the bun. Fork 'em.

In early Janurary of this year we bought a ham. It was delicious. I ate a large portion of the ham when it was hot out of tha oven. My BGL was extremely high two hours later. I pilled the wrapper out of the trash and saw that the ham contained lots of honey. I knew ham is sometimes honey cured but I had never bought one that was. I had paid no attention to the label. I will never make that mistake again.

Take nothing for granted and read the ingredients of everything before you buy it. I found out long ago that most hot dogs contain corn syrup. The same can be said about most lunch meats.

And if you put ketchup on your dog or chili sauce, you are throwing mostly corn syrup on it.
Corn syrup is the tip off that there are not a lot of quality ingredients in the product you are looking at. Whether you low carb or not, this is the item we should all limit as much as possible. I say limit as it is very hard to live a normal life and avoid it completely. And I don't think a little bit is a big concern.
