For Those Who Can't Do Cereal....

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I know it's helped me.

I used to have TERRIBLE spikes after cereal - even high fibre and/or high protein cereal. But I've found that if I have my cereal with unsweetened soy milk instead of regular milk, it makes a big difference. The soy milk I bought has only 3g of carbs in a cup, and 6g of protein. And I really don't mind the taste at all. It still works best with lower carb, higher fibre, higher protein cereal, obviously, but it makes it much easier on my bloodsugars.

Just thought I'd share.

I did that for a while with my grape nuts but one day I saw chocolate soy and that was it. Couldn't stop using it and the carb load was just too high. Switched to oatmeal with splenda & cinnamon. Much better.

I use a whole grain hot cereal with flax seed made by Hogsden Farms. It has about 21 g carbs and 6 g fiber. I add a touch of honey (or splenda if I am running a bit high) and some half and half (just about a teaspoon full) and it's really pretty tasty. Also there are muffin recipes on the pacakage that I make substituting splenda and those are good, too.

I like plain shredded wheat cereal... I have never tried soy milk but I might like to see how it is with the shredded wheat... hmmmmm...

Very good advice Beth. Milk spikes my blood sugar like nothing else. I love Raison Bran and can never eat it. I might just try that.

Thanks!

I buy whole milk and mix it with half water to cut the carbs in half.
