Question about Protein and Fat

Is 120g Of Protein and about 100g of fat to much for a 1700 calorie diet? Assuming i get all 1700 of course.

480 calories from protein and about 900 from fat.

Just wondering thats to much or if thats good for a diet?

And also will this help me to lose weight since i am having less carbs?

Probably not enough protein IMHO.

Here's a breakdown I recently got from my doc who councels high protein, low carb for diabetics

45% protein (for 1500 calories thats 175 grams)
20% carbs (75 grams)
35% fat

So for 1700 I would up all the categories but mostly the protein.

Hopefully more will post so you can get a range of ideas.

See, I would say...

50% fat
30% protein
20% carbs

Not exactly "trial and error", there are some good books on this subject... but yes, you do need to discover what works best for you.

480 calories from protein and about 900 from fat...
You need about 1 gram of protein per Kg of body weight a day. Body builders and athletes use up 2 grams of protein a day to keep their muscles in shape. But a moderately active 75Kg male only requires 75 grams of protein a day. That is all that is needed to satisfy the amino acid requirements. There is no problem with eating more protein than this, but it is wasteful. Much of the expensive excess protein is just converted to glucose and gets stored as fat. That is a waste of money. Protein should represent about 15%-20% of your calorie intake. If you are wanting to lose weight and achieve good blood glucose control, keep the carbs below 20%, and get the rest of your calories (60%+) from fat.
