| | | Carb Poll I'm curious how many people follow a low or lower carb diet.
I've started to avoid cereal for breakfast (unless I go running after eating it), and have found more stable bgl's and higher HDL (though this could be due to more exercise...I'm not sure). Anyway, I'd be curious to know how many people follow each approach or who has made small or major changes in diet and the outcomes you've noticed. (I don't know if these are accurate categories, but I figured low carb <= 100g/day, mod-carb 100-250g/day, and high carb >250g/day).
Thanks,
David |

| | | I have reduced carbs in my diet especially in the early part of the day. Doing this has helped me deal with the Dawn Phenomenon, and the increased sensitivity to carbs that goes with it.
For breakfast I normally have a piece of toast and an egg (15g of carbs). At the moment, I am having a piece of bread and a tin of sardines or 1/2 a tin of salmon (15g of carbs). For dinner, I eat what the family eats - about 45 g of carbs. During the day, I probably consume another 20g of carbs in fruit and/or biscuits.
Doing this has helped stabilise blood sugars in the morning. And keeping them that way the rest of the day has become a lot easier. My last HBA1c was 6.2 and I expect it to come down to about 5.8 with this Lantus/Novorapid regimen and reduced carb way of eating.
Cheers,

| | Interesting poll!
I'll have oatmeal in the morning or Alpen bran crunch. I'll have a fruit, and way too much coffee.
I'm the kind of person who likes pasta with bread. And I LOVE rice. Ack! I'm trying my best to cut down or to have these at lunch time, when I can burn them with physical activity.
I'd say I eat carbs in moderation now although I don't measure them. I used to be the biggest carb eater so that tells me I'm improving.

| | | I eat fewer than 50 grams a day of carbs and that keeps my blood glucose levels in a normal range consistently - 4.0 (72) to 5.5 (99). My last A1C was 5.0. I've been doing this for over two years and no longer even miss the high carb foods I used to love.

| | | My modified low carbs has a max of 60g...quite often only 50. I have seen both my bGs and insulin shots lower. Although not 100% stable, certainly I am in the 4.5-8.0 (82-145) range 88% of the time. The really big change has been in my fasting numbers. Not that long ago 12.0(216) was 'low'....now I am starting to consider 8.0(145) 'high', but I am content with it.

| | | I have excellent control (and have had for years), as well as HDL/LDL/ratio (can't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head) and am currently eating 180 g CHO/day. About a month and a half ago I saw a dietician and she increased my daily CHO intake as well as caloric intake, and as a result I was able to decrease my insulin:cho ratio.

| | | I've just recently started counting carbs. For the longest, I was still operating on the ADA calorie diet. It was fine when I was growing up, but as an adult, your body certainly starts handling stuff different! I am still struggling with counting carbs (correctly anyhow) and trying to curb my desire for the high carb foods (like potatoes, rice, pasta, etc). For the most part, I usually stay with about 135g - 180g per day. |

| | | I am eating a moderate CHO level at around 170-180 CHO/day. I would like to reduce that level but I love carbs too much! |

| | | My carb intake tends to vary from day to day, but usually is approximately 125-150, or so. I'd have to look a little closer at everything I eat to get a more precise number (as some days, I eat less or more), but I put myself in the moderate section for good measure...lol

| | | I have only cut out anything with real sugar and I am careful to only have two portions of fruit a day otherwise my bg goes up.
I am supose to have 50 % of my diet in carbs according to my Health Educator. I eat a lot of whole grains, vegetables and beans to get that. I can only have 25% protien and 25% fat.
I have only known I have diabetes 2 for about two weeks and so far I have pretty much stayed on the diet and have lost about 8 pounds. It is hard to find protein without fat. Chicken tenders and lowfat cottage cheese have become my staple.
I am only suppose to have 1500 calories a day.
So far so good, but I have a long way to go. About 100 pounds to lose in the next two years. |

| | ... tried a low carb recipe the other day. After what I consider a good size meal, BG was 6.2. I was simply amazed. I must say that since I test more often, I'm even more aware how some foods will affect me. Needless to say, I can't wait to see my health care team again.
