| | snacks! (add yours) I like to eat dessert or snacks, and being t2 makes it harder.
I'm collecting a list of tasty snacks that are under about 5 carbs, so they are basically free in my eyes:
Breyers 'carb smart' ice cream bars - 5g
Breyers 'carb smart' vanilla ice cream 1/2 cup - 4g
Jello, sugar free - 0g
Kroger/Ralphs 'carb master' yogurt - 3g
cottage cheese 1/2 cup - 5g
Popsicle ice pops sugar free - 2g
Diet sodas - 0g
I guess we could add things like salami and string cheese too, but I'm looking mostly for things we may not expect could be low carb..
Any additions? |

| | | I guess listing other 'snack-like' items is ok too, so:
pickles - 0g (I assume)
string cheese - 0g (I assume)
popcorn (not much g, but I forget)
peanuts (cashews seem to have more carbs)
yummy dry salami - 0g |

| | I snack on whole raw flax seeds. They keep the munchies at bay while I sit at the computer all day. 2 tbs has 6g carbs but 5g is fiber and it has 150% DV of omega-3 and lots of other goodies ( check it out)
I like the flavor actually, and it's kinda tricky eating them whole the way I do. I make sure to chew each little seed individually. It takes a lot of time but actually that's a good thing if you think about it.

| | | My bedtime dessert, takes care of sweet tooth, dawn phenomena and something to buffer the bedtime meds.
Soymilk SF pudding layer over SF gelatin (1/3 cup of each)
76cal 1g fat 12g carb 2g fiber 0g sugar 4g protein
The actual numbers vary slightly depending on the pudding and gelatin flavors used but not by much.
Lots of variety flavorwise since I can mix'n'match flavor layers any way I want. Banana creme pudding over orange jello and chocolate pudding over raspberry jello are my faves ATM

| | | I must have been really low because I swear i responded to this thread last week.
anyway
my favorite snack......
peperoni - nuked in the miocrowave on a bed of paper towels - dont forget to cover them too. its great when the folks in your area are making popcorn as a afternoon snack. Peperoni really hits the spot. Nuke it until it is cripsy and it taste great. everyone arround you will think oyur snacking on pizza.
I also like taking pork rinds with butter splenda and cinnamon. combine and it makes a great low carb snack.

| | | ok based on the meaning of this thread... things you can eat you would not expect too.......
I have a question. Do you miss Hash Browns?
I did - and I loved hash browns. Then one day someone turned me on to the most obscure way to have the great taste of hash browns and not get the carbs. This is not califlower. these are so much better, in fact my wife likes them better than real has browns.
are you ready?
Radishes. you need to chop them up or grate them. But the trick is when pan frying these up, you got to get them Brown. while they are white they taste like hot/warm radishes. Once they go brown the flavor changes and the texture would fool a blind man into thinking you did something great to his hash browns. Try a bunch and let me know what you think.
I love them and everyone I know who has tried this has liked them too.
Enjoy.

| | | Ritch, I will definitely try this!! The cooking must dissolve the radish taste, leaving a sort of potato flavor. Hmmm. And with cheese! Yummy.
Thanks for posting.

Enjoy. | When I was growing up, a rumor circulated in my country that McDonald's was using chayote or christophine (green fleshy veggie that has similar texture to wintermelon or young green papaya when cooked) instead of potatoes for their fries. So we tried it at home and, unless you are a very very picky French fries eater, you won't complain about the pseudo-fries.
We'll try your trick at home. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
