Same A1C with new diet

Hello everyone! I haven't posted in what seems like forever, but I have some interesting things to have come up. I had blood work done back around the 1st of July. A1C was 7.3, cholesterol was 201. Just had it done again a few weeks ago and A1C was 7.3 (again), but cholesterol was down to 164. I don't take any cholesterol meds, but I've been low carbing since around the end of August. I've lost 19 lbs, and I feel SO much better overall, but that darn A1C didn't budge at all. That is SO frustrating. My meter is showing my average results to be lower than than 7.3 too. I've reduced by insulin needs from 66 units of Lantus a day to 45 units of Lantus a day. I used to take a total of anywhere from 25 to 40 units of Novolog total a day and now I'm down to anywhere from 5 units to 15 units a day. Anyone have any advice on getting that A1C down on this low carb diet?

*Currently taking 45 units of Lantus, sliding scale Novolog for meals and corrections, and 500mg metformin with evening meal (when needed).*

*Down 21 units of Lantus a day and only taking 5-15 units of Novolog total per day, compared to 10-15 per MEAL every day before. Still taking the 500mg of Metformin with night meal when needed.*

*Have been low-carbing for 4 months now, 19lbs lost.*

Post some details about what you eat and your readings in relation to your meals and people will have a little more to go on. I'm sure you can get your A1C down.

Also, when do you take your bolus realative to the meal?

What do you consider "low-carb"?

Maybe you need to re-profile your basals again? Just a shot in the dark, but possibly you reduced insulin a bit ahead of your BG drops due to diet change. Maybe some painstaking profiling will reveal some hidden high spots.

Agree. You likely have hidden gaps. I'd start with the nighttime. I'll bet you tend to run high all night.

I actually wake up probably 3 or 4 nights a week with my blood sugar being LOW. Like.. in the 30s or 40s. I eat less than 20 carbs a day most days, sometimes can eat as much as 50, but never over that.
