morning levels

I've read a couple of things about the morning "sugar dump"- I am new to this disorder and am not on any meds yet. My sugars-due to lo carb eating and as much movement during the day- are hovering around 90-110 during the day, but---in the am they are typically around 130. If this is because of the long time frame between eating and rising (not really so long as I go to bed around 11:00 and get up at 5:00)- would it make sense to get up in the middle of the night and eat something?
Thanks for your patience with my ignorance!

Sorry-- I am a type II

If you end up on insulin, I know that Dr. Bernstein recommends injecting insulin immediately upon waking up to deal with dawn phenomenon. I do not have the issue; others (who, I'm sure, will post) find that eating certain things shortly before going to bed helps them. You'll have to experiment to find out what works for you.

Thanks ShottleBop..I've only ended up with a few lows in the am, and neglected to remember what I ate the night before!

Bed Time Snack

I am pre-no meds, low carb. I think you should try a small protein snack such as cheese and one cracker before bed. I have high fbss only when I wake up very stressed and my adreneline is in overtime. For eg I have had a high stress dream or I am anticipating a stressful day or I am particularly anxious about something, or I wake up and find I have a leak from upstairs pipes ruining my living room ceiling (true). I tend to be an anxious person.

I usually have a small glass of red wine and a slice of cheese around 9 pm, bed by 10:30, rise at 6:30. Good luck,it takes a while to know what works for you.

Thanks Newby, I will try that. Although I haven't touched a cracker in 5 months! But I will try the cheese. Also, I just remembered that when I take my thyroid med right before bed, my morning levels aren't as high. I've also recently read something about hypothyroidism being associated with (to the point of playing a part in developing) diabetes.

I eat three crackers with peanut butter before bed. My morning numbers then range from 79-96, mostly in the low to mid 80s. Without this trick, mid 90's up to 110.
