Question regarding Carb ratio

My basic question is: how do I know if my carb ratio on my pump (1:16) is correct?

I really have not discussed it with my endoor anyone else but wonder if it contributes to tough control at times.

So much to know and understand. Maybe my screen name should have been No rocket scientist!

Dear No Rocket Scientist,

Even a true rocket scientist couldn't get it immediately. It takes some time.

Ideally: If you have a good bg, say 100, and you know your basals are good (you've done basal testing at all times of day/night), you should be able to dose for carbs eaten, and within a couple hours (or 3) be back to your starting bg of 100. If the 1:16 isn't right, you should either be too high, or too low 2 or 3 hours after eating (the 2-3 hours is a guess based on different carbs being slower/faster acting).

It takes a measured approach, kind of like basal testing, IMO.

Jan:

Thanks for the quick "guide to carb ratios". I think all my problems would be solved if I did have to eat! I think I need to go back to the basics and test my basal (like you suggested) I did it a couple of times but not for different times of day, just breakfast.

I suspect I am off at certain times of the day because I lack constant readings. Please do not look at my bio and see I have been pumping for six years. Always room for improvement!

I grew up with Springers, wonderful dogs.
