Possibly pregnant and scared- please help!

Hello - my question is long, but I am so grateful for any help.

My husband and I are trying to conceive. This is our fourth month trying. I have an entire diabetes team in place, including a high-risk OB. Here are a few of my stats: A1C is 6.4 and has been there for at least five months. On a pump and sensor (Minimed).Taking prenatals. No diabetes complications.

I am currently in the two weeks between ovulation and being able to confirm the pregnancy. I have no idea if I am pregnant. But here is why I am scared:

Three days in a row I have had a spike up to 270. Two were post-prandial for whatever reason, and one was due to infusion set problems (which is so rare for me). I got all three down very quickly and forced fluids (water). But I am TERRIFIED - I have tried so hard to get everything right, and now I could be pregnant and I screw up big time. I have no idea if I was throwing off any ketones because I was too scared to check. I am also hesitant to call my doctor because I don't actually know if I am pregnant. I've already called twice about other stuff and I don't want to be THAT patient.

Has anyone been pregnant with Type I or had a spouse/partner/friend pregnant with Type I and had this happen? Was the baby healthy? Please help set my mind at rest. Thank you so very much!

Just keep a close eye on your sugars and get them in range (70-140) as soon as you can. We're type 1, and highs happen. Treating them as quickly as possible is important.

I blogged extensively about my healthy type 1 pregnancy and am writing a book about the subject that will be out next year. There are also support groups through Yahoo (Positive Diabetic Pregnancies and PregnantPumpers are two good ones) where you can get more immediate support. There's also diabeticmommy.com.

Good luck--you can do it!

A spike is just that - a temporary and quick raise that falls back down. If your numbers were *consistently* high or low, then it would be worrisome. This could be a sign that you are pregnant. Your numbers will go insane - relax a little. Thats normal. The fact that you are being very focused and keeping things in line means you'll have better success.
