Hello everyone, my name is diane , I am 49 and i have type 2. recently been going through a lot of dif insulins and i think i finally found the ones that work thank god. However....I CAN'T SEE! It happened before.... Last time it happened someone said drink a lot of water and they will gradually get better and your eyesight will come back. It's not working this time. I have my comp font set to large and i'm wearing my glasses and still very cloudy vision. anyone know of any fixes for this or am i pretty much screwed? Forgive me if i seem dumb because i AM to all this. This shiat is scary. I am going to call the nurse too and see what she says but wanted to try out this place because you can always get good advice in these forums. Thanks so much for reading.

Have your glucose levels been high? Are they returning to lower levels now? This is actually quite common and may take some time. I remember it took me about 1-2 weeks for my vision to return to normal after I was diagnosed.

I am not sure what to tell you about your vision. I would talk to a doc asap if I were you.

I have perfect vision but when I run high my vision gets bad and than gets better after a couple of days of good bs control.

Definitely call that nurse/doc asap. It does sound likely to me it's your eyes adjusting to a lower BG level. But can you be a bit more specific? Do you mean your eyesight is blurry, is that "all"? When someone says "I can't SEE" it makes me think of out-and-out blindness.

It this is indeed what is going on, your glasses are likely to be wrong for a while. Depending on your "normal" eyesight issues, you might actually currently get better vision without them - be sure to check this. Depending on how long you've had bad BGs, you might even need to get a new prescription.

Thanks so much for the replies. I knew you people here would help. Well, specific is i am really blurred. Worse than ever. I can't see my cell phone or anything. Righ now my face is right up to the screen because i am havinbg a hard time writing this. sorry if i have some type o's here.
I am waiting on the nurse to call me back from my docs. Don't know about my glucose level. It's been about a week or so since it got like this so maybe i just need to wait it out? Because my sugar has been great. Normally it was never below 300. it always stayed within the 200 to 300 range and above. I actually just got out of the hospital after a 3 day stay because of my diabetes. I'm so scared. My son was too and i feel so bad for him. You have all been great. I have perscription glasses but they stink. One of the lenses keeps popping out and you are right subby, i need a new eyexam i guess. blahhh, i hate them but right now i have no choice. i want to see. Thanks again everyone.

Take it easy during this time. Feel good in the fact that this is a sign of things getting better, not worse. Yes, it sounds silly because I know it is inconvenient and even scary, but go through a period of screwed up vision, keep your BGs down in the long run, and your future is looking much brighter.

If you do go and get new glasses, be sure to wait until this process of re-adjustment is over, or, if later on, that your sugar levels have been really stable for a few days at least. Tell the optometrist about your diabetes and recent BG trends.

Diane, I am so sorry you are having these problems. I wish I had an answer for you. I am very nearsighted. When I cannot wear my contact lenses I am miserable. I had to appologize to my eye doctor when I was giving him a difficult time adjusting to bifocal contact lenses. He was very understanding. I hope your eyes get better soon.

They didn't call me back....uhhh. I actually have an appt. with the educator on the 1st so i guess that is when i ask questions i guess. I really appreciate all of your help and suggestions .

When I was diagnosed after being high for at least 2 months I stayed at the hospital and they brought my bg back to normal levels. 2 days later I woke up and couldn't see anything after 24 years of perfect vision. That made me really scared thinking I was going blind but it turned out I just needed glasses for hyperopia, and 3 weeks later I went back to perfect vision and don't need glasses anymore.

There's almost no information on the internet about how a change in BG can affect vision and that tends to make people a lot more worried than they should be. The diabetes sites should put more information about this.

Ive never worn glasses, but one thing that helped me after DX was getting some high power reading lenses. Brought things back into focus until my eyes were better. It may or may not work for you, but it might be worth a shot.

Focus on learning how to control your sugars. Diet, exercise, and medications all play important roles. If your vision problems are related to high glucose levels, they will return to normal when your sugars do.

Have you seen an ophtamologist? You should see one annually.

Where in NH are you? I was there a few weeks ago for a visit.

See a doc asap. It *could* just be blurriness because of yur blood sugar returning to normal but it could also be from problems with your retina, like diabetic retinopathy - if that's the case you need to be seen asap. There's treatments for that now, but if you don't get treated it can cause permanant damage - my mom went blind at 16 from it.
