| | | Anyone else tired all the time? I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic three years ago. I take 1000mg Metformin and just recently started Byetta. I am tired all the time. I have felt like this for awhile, so I know it's not the Byetta. I was just wondering if anyone else feels the fatigue? Do the meds make me feel tired, or is it just being diabetic? My last A1C was 6.8, which was a month ago.

| | | Have you tested to see where your numbers are when you feel most tired? You may also want to get your thyroid checked. |

| | | I've also heard that met can affect vitamin B levels so it could be that you have a B12 deficiency - which WILL make one feel tired all the time. |

| | | I'd go with the suggest Mortis made and check your BG levels when you feel the tiredness, high BG can have that effect.

| | | I know that high BG levels will make me sleepy, but it's not that. Even when I have good BG levels, I am tired. I have had a sleep study done, and I do not have sleep apnea. I have had thyroid checked in the past and that is not a problem. I wonder if it has something to do with lack of vitamins. I don't think I get enough vegetables in my diet. I try to take a daily vitamin, but don't all the time. Thanks for your suggestions. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow for a one month follow up using Byetta. I'll ask him what he thinks.

| | Do you have children within 100 feet of you? They suck all the energy out of adults without even touching them you know. It's some unseen power they possess. They can even do it through walls, so it might be your neighbors!

| | | Jeff..... that is hilarious! No, my children are grown and gone, but I do have grandchildren! However this has been going on for a long time. My doctor says I need to go to bed earlier.
Duh, I guess I thought I could stay up late and get up early and be full of energy all day~ lol~ NOT!

Either way you are definitely spending a sizeable amount of time around or above 160 mg/dl.
I get tired with BGs up around and above 160 mg/dl. High BGs cause me systemic tiredness, by which I mean that even if I have a day or two of better BGs, I'll still be suffering the effects of what my general control does to me, over days and weeks. Obviously there are many, many people who don't even notice if they run a higher A1c than this. But I am one who does, and who gets fatigue from it.
I am not saying that it is just the BGs causing the tiredness... in myself it certainly doesn't seem that clean cut. But, even assuming there are underlying causes (which I have looked for, and you should too) the better my control, the better off I am. Mid 6s, with less fluctuation, leads me to having more energy and less fatigue. I'd like to see what 5s do for me but so far that's held up with some pretty thorny control issues. Something that's in the future.
If you have wriggle room to get an A1c closer to non diabetic, it could give you some relief from tiredness over time.

| | | Thanks to all for your advice. My numbers go up and down. I'm always high in the morning, my doctor calls is the "dawn effect", said it may have something to with hormones. They usually level off in the afternoon to around 100-120, depending on what I have eaten. I do need to exercise more, and yes I probably have a lack of vitamins. Any suggestions for a good daily vitamin? I had some I was taking, but the pill is so big that I tend to not take it every day like I should.

| | I take Flintstones chewables! They taste great, and don't have to deal with the size factor. They are just as good for adults as kids.
