Duprytren's Disease

I have taken a back seat in this forum and now have a question? Any other Diabetics have Dupytren's Diease? A growth in palm of hands that as it grows up fingers it attches to tendons etc.in fingers and slowly pulls fingers closed, surgery is necessary to correct, kicker is it grows back. I have had surgery 5 times on both hands in last 10 years. It is more prominate in Diabetics

I have it, but haven't needed surgery yet. I was told to put off surgery until it drove me nuts, and that recuperation time was lengthy. Sometimes the knot in the middle of my right hand really does hurt, but most of the time it's ok. I haven't been able to flatten my right hand out for a long time.

The RA in my hands is worse than the Dupuytren's . . . but they sometimes play together.

I have been lucky with a very slow progression (I guess).

Did you have pain before your surgeries? Or was the goal to uncurl your hands? Dupuytren's is not supposed to be painful . . .

My mom was a T1 with Dupytren's. Her hands are arthritic as well, so it's kind of depressing to see her with the "claws" all the time. She started developing it in her early thirties. And we were all afraid I had it, since I got a hard bump at the joint where the ring finger meets the hand -- thankfully it was a tiny calcified cyst.

Be wary of surgery. Hers was botched and her right hand is essentially useless now.
