    wound vac

Has anybody used or are currently using a wound vac?

I have a diabetic ulcer caused by a charcot foot, And after walking on for a month( not checking like i should) the bottom of my foot got an ulcer in may. Been doing hyperebaric treatments almost got healed than went into surgery last week to get the bone that caused the problem removed/shortened so i can walk again without it happening again I hope. since they did that my ulcer got deeper because of the bone being gone they put me on a wound vac.

My question if anybody has used one, how long were you on it ?

It will depend on how long it takes to heal. The vac's easy to use and doesn't hurt. I'm guessing you're wound is being checked weekly. Your doc will let you know when you don't need it any more.

Sorry for what you're going through with this, no fun!

I know nothing about wound vac, but as someone who has also recently undergone surgery for diabetic complications (eyes) I want to wish you well and a speedy recovery. Sounds like you have very good medical care and your BG is under good control so the outlook is positive.

Hope you are up and about quickly.

I've got an open wound on my abdomen, that I've had for 12 years. I have used the vac therapy, in hospital, twice. One time I was on it for 6-7 weeks, the other time was not as long. The wound broke down on both occasions. However I have heard of many peopkle that have had great sucess with it.
