Increased pulse

Just curious... Does anyone else notice that their pulse rate increases after they eat? My pulse jumps up about 30 points after I eat. Feels like my heart is pounding out of my chest. I can actually look down at my chest and watch my shirt bounce up and down.

The only other time I notice a rapid pulse is when I'm experiencing a hypo (usually goes up around 160bpm).

Thumpity thump,
Angie

I've never noticed it but I've never really looked. It seems my pulse increases during an insulin reaction but when I check my blood pressure, it seems to drop which surprised me. If you have a blood pressure monitor perhaps it can tell you what your pulse is too. I never had one until I started having problems with high blood pressure about 18 months ago.

It may be the rise in your blood sugar (from the food). When I'm running high, I do notice my pulse seems higher.

Certain blood pressure medications will increase your pulse while lowering your blood pressure. Maybe food will do the same. What exactly are you eating anyway?

lol Unfortunately, nothing that exciting to cause my pulse to jump. I'm eating average meals, such as fish with vegetables, or meat with fruit and vegetables, or maybe a sandwich. It doesn't really matter what I eat, but I sometimes notice a pulse increase of around 30bpm.

It's just odd, and I was wondering if anyone else experiences the same... or if it's my own little physical weirdness.

I do think what Heather said about a rise in blood sugar possibly being the cause of this, is true. My heart tends to beat like a drummer on speed when low, and also when coming out of a low, so who knows.

Best wishes,
Angie

I haven't been smart enough to check my pulse during episodes, but, yes, sometimes my wife looks at me funny and will ask if I'm Ok and I respond with "It's just the insulin and Carbs battling it out."
