I heard a story on the news earlier this week that said women with diabetes should take folic acid before becoming pregnant and up until the 12th(?) week of the pregnancy in order to reduce chances of complications to the fetus. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

All women that are trying to get pregnant should take folic acid. It helps reduce risks of some birth defects like spina bifida. It is also important to have your bs under tight control for a few months prior to conception and during pregnancy.
