diabetes and protein supplements

is taking protein supplements for workouts ok for ppl with diabetes?

im talking the 100% Whey Protein from GNC...

When I used to hit the weights, yeah. I never over-did it, though. Maybe 30 grams a day of supplemental protein. I'd either use Designer's various Whey flavors or even MuscleMilk (that stuff can taste good!). I actually bought a can of MuscleMilk Banana Creme (or whatever it is) about a month ago. It doesn't kill my sugars if I bolus properly for it (in other words, no mysterious highs, etc).

There are absolutely no short term effects that I know of; however, my endo says avoid them. His opinion is they put undo long term stress on the kidneys, and he says they do very little to add muscle. That said, I'll pop a half scoop once or twice a week
