| | | Feet It seems like whenever I get into a regular exercise program, I have to quit several months after starting because of my left foot. I had this same problem last year when I was trying to exercise. The ball of my foot and toes (the bottom) start to slowly ache and hurt. Then sometimes it aches so badly that I can't walk on it. But as soon as I rest my foot and take off my shoes, it feels much better. Last year when I experience this, it took about 4-6 months for me to not have that pain whenever I walked....I guess (like duh) I should go to the doc, but I don't like to!!!!!!!! |

| | | i think you should see a doctor, before it get worse i am thinking amputation. it can never hurt to know what's going on and then you can be at peace with whatever result that might give you. |

| | Hello Jenny!
Have pain when I walk long distance but then again, I have a 'fallen arch' or so doc says. Can't ice skate anymore. Your problem may not even be linked to diabetes. But it could too! Better go and see doc... have it checked out. I'd try diff kind of shoes too. And oh! I had a tendency to walk on the outer part of my feet. Someone made me notice it. Had little exercices to do to correct it. It may sound a silly idea but have someone check you out when you walk. Maybe the way you're walking is at the source of this pain, who knows? Good luck! | | | foot pain Jenny you didn't say how old you are. I am retired and have played tennis for the last 20 years. I now play doubles and move a little slower .
However I've delt with foot pain. As we get older we lose the cushion of fat in the bottom of our feet and need to compensate for it. I switched to a different brand of shoe which provides more cushion. I have also used sports gels which slip into your shoe.
The ultimate is to have a professional make you custom orthodics
which provide help exactly where you need it....this can be expensive.
I hope this helps and wish you luck..

| | | Jenny,
I have just recently delt with a new foot problem. Only partially related to diabetes.
Go see a doctor.
My arch fell, and the tendon is tearing away from heal. However, corrective supports......staying off of it for a few months and LISTENING TO DOCTOR seems to be solving the pain/problem.
Good luck, and seek proffessional opinion.

| | | Hi Jenny, first of all, see your doctor - when it's hurting - rather than not. Second, get a better pair of shoes - best would be those made specifically for walking, wear padded socks, and adding some cushioning may help as well (there are different kinds, you may have to try several before you find something that works). I had to do all those things when I started walking seriously, and it made a huge difference.

| | | I agree with everyone else here, see a doctor about it.
Also, another source of excercise that you might want to look into, that doesn't require pounding on your feet is swimming. Very good excercise and not weight bearing, so you probably won't get sore feet. |

| | | Jenny, Believe me I know what you mean about going to the Dr. I am so tired of going to the Drs. but if I had started going back in 94 when my feet first started bothering me I might not be in a wheelchair now. So go to the Dr. and listen and do what he says.

| | In answer to some of the questions asked while I was gone,
I am 25, I have good quality shoes made for running. They are New Balance. I only walk on the treadmill, I don't like to job or run. So far, I bought a pair of really cooshie insoles and that has helped me a ton! I haven't had any problems since! But if the problem comes back , I will go to the doc...... |

| | | Jenny, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me and unfortunately still do. The ball of my feet after walking a great distance or exercise or rollerblading would feel like it was swollen and extremely sore. My toes would be a bit numb and I had no clue what was going on. I went to a foot specialist thinking I was going to get the "word" neuropathy. What I discovered was I have something that is called neuromas in my feet. The specialist actually could palpate them in a way that I could feel the knots he was talking about. The way I understood it was I have knot like growths on the nerves in my feet near my toes. Quite common unfortunately. Not much can be done to correct neuormas bar surgically removing them and producing foot numbness. Now that doesn't make much sense to me. I have slight neuropathy in my toes, but it is slight.
The answer I found for this problem is an orothotic for my shoe called Super Feet. I went to a foot and shoe specialist that vaccum packed my feet and made a special shoe insert for my shoes and rollerblades. These fit my feet exactly and sort of take the pressure off the Neuromas. They are made from cork and they form fit around your toes and give you a good arch without causing pain. About $150.00, but well worth the price. Not a complete fix, but makes it much better.
Do see a foot specialist.....this is only what happened to me, but perhaps this is the same issue for you. Don't squish your feet in a small shoe. Have a shoe with a large toe box so your toes can move around. If you can't buy $150.00 orthotics, there are many others out there that cost less that will soften the blow to your sore toes.

| | | Nancy,
Wow! That sounds very similar to what I feel when I have this problem! Since I added the inserts, my feet are much better, so I hope it stays that way because if I get it again, I will go to the doc because the last time I had it, I could barely walk on the left foot for several months.....
