| | | Diet Coke... I am a little confused about this one... I had a diet coke the other day, and it seemed to put my blood sugar up. I didn't change my diet at all, so it wasn't that, the only thing different that I consumed was the diet coke. Does the caffine have anything to do with it? |

| | Hello!
Diet sodas never changed my BG. If I do indulge too much in caffeine though (coffee's my main sin), BG can rise quite significantly though. Depends how much caffeine your system can tolerate I guess?
Don't forget diet sodas can actually make you (feel) hungry. Ever had that feeling of hunger after a diet drink? I do! So perhaps you had more to eat without noticing it, could it be a possibility?
Everyone's different. And unique. Would be a good idea to notice how you react next time you have a diet drink, what do you think? How high was it after the drink?
Or perhaps it's just one of those days, you know...? Sometimes BG has a mind of its own.

| | Diabetic-Canada,
I'm a Coke Diet addict. Never had an episode due to Coke Diet. Neither have I had a reaction from using this drug(caffeine) unless it was attached to too much sugar.=flavored coffees, mmmmmm
But as Belinda and Marie have pointed out we is all differmints in the way that we react. Plus, we have to realize that we will react differently from time to time to things that are supposedly "known"

| | | Caffeine can cause a raise in blood sugars, so that may have done it to you. If this hasn't happened before, it may have had to do with other factors, such as stress or something else. Plus, there's a first time for everything....

| | | Belinda,
The same thing has happened to me with fountain drinks. I went to a local fast food restaraunt one day and it has a self serve fountain. I poured my own drink, but when I tasted it.....it tasted sugary. I dumped it and poured another one thinking maybe I messed up. It was the same sugary taste. Found out that when they connected to tubing up to the syrup and coke machine it was crossed. Ya just have to stay on top of your game!!! LOL
