OK girls excuse me for a blonde moment here but I'm trying to wrap my head around this one and it's just not happening...

You say you set a dual wave, although to me that implies an increase of bg over time that you're trying to cover or a peak after a period of normal bg's. By that logic shouldn't you either set a temp basal at a bit of a higher rate or else bolus less for the pasta?! Pasta generally has a medium GI which means it shouldn't cause much along the lines of peaks or troughs in your bg's. As for bagels, they are high GI's so they make bg's rise rapidly. Can I just say y'all are wierd?!?!

Wink

Shy-
For me if I bolus all my insulin when I eat the pasta then I am definately going to go low in an hour to an hour and half. I discussed this with my Dr. and he told me to experiment with the dual mode and see if I can figure out a way to fix my love for pasta consumption. This resulted in lots of test! LOL but it works for me. As we know this might not work for others....it must be the way I am wired ? LOL

Alright I'm reading this wrong or something because Belinda I'm so confused lol!! You said first you dual cause you go low but then you said you experimented because you were running high?! Are you going low and then bouncing high if you don't dual is that it?

Can someone just shoot me now please put me out of my misery?!

Sorry for the confusion let me see. If I ate 45 grams of carbs in pasta then I would take 3 units of insulin when I ate. In about an hour to an hour and half I would check my BG cause I felt bad. It would be around the 40 or 50 mark. So I experimented and waited to take the insulin 2 hours later but I was too high. Luckily I had a Dr. appointment and he helped me figure out that I need to take about 1/2 when I start and the other later in small increments thus the dual mode.

Sorry for the confusion

I usually give 2/3 of my bolus immediately and take the other 1/3 over two hours. Some foods require less some more. This might be a good starting point for you.

Spaghetti and other pasta don't seem to make my bg's go too high...it seems almost as though they run through my body fast and then I get low....

Pasta's and bread's are driving my sugars way up. I am staying away from them as much as I can... which is a pity because spagetti is one of my favorite meals...

In fact, I hate a hamburger the other day with meat, lettuce, and mustard and my BG went up over 200...

Maybe you need to make some adjustments in your insulin dose. Do you know your carb:insulin ratio?
