| | | C-peptide test Has anybody taken this test? I know that this is one of the tests to determine whether a patient has Type 1 (c-peptide below the norm) or Type 2 (c-peptide above the norm).
We had a debate on the other message board about the importance of c-peptide when we are talking about diabetic complications.
C-peptide is produced by pancreas together with insulin. And it shows whether a body still produces its own insulin in the small amounts. Obviously, if you are insulin-dependent, it would be difficult to figure how much own insulin is produced because of exogenous insulin present in the body. So they use c-peptide test to determine this.
On that message board. People with Type1 and a very good blood control noticed that withing a year c-peptide increases a very tiny bit. So, I used my medical insurance (because, national health service wouldn't like the idea of taking this test) and my boyfriend took the test. So, we are going to do the same in a year time and see the results. |

| | | In my case, the Dr. doesn't see the point and neither does the CDE.
Dr. is convinced that I'm Type 1.5--same as CDE; and since it's a strain on the budget, Ins., and since I'm on insulin anyway--they just brush off suggestion that I have it done.
Someday when I get rich, maybe then I'll have it done.

| | Yeah, it wasn't the cheapest - 93 pounds.
But I got intrigued by the article I read about the possible connections between c-peptide and complications. |

| There's a great deal of information that would come with knowing your actual Type. But, hey, Wellness Knowledge is a luxury--gotta keep them Ins. Suits in their jets and BMWs.
Funny thing though. I was watching a meeting of the Governors of U.S. states and some fella was trying to convince them that Wellness and Wellness Knowledge were good for Corporate "Bottom Lines". Wonder why it isn't good for Government and personal "Bottom Lines."

what do u mean by Type 1.5???
| I'm generalizing way too much and somebody will correct me but here goes.
The way I understand it 1.5 is how the Diabetes experts are explaining Type 1 developing at a later than "accepted " age for type 1.
I know there's more to it than that but that's how I'm Rationalizing to me. Quote:
You've heard of diabetes type 1 and type 2. But how about type 1.5?

It's not entirely new. But in recent years researchers and health care providers are noticing that it is showing up more often. | http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz...t08052003.html
