In the hospital again

Yeah, well, it's not enough that my husband is in the hospital, but Eri ended up in DKA yesterday. Her nurse never called me from school yesterday and she had HI bgl and ketones and her heart was racing. I was at the hospital w/ Eric yesterday and at 5 something my dad called me and said Eri was HI and had high ketones and was power puking. They admitted her last night, but we are now home, although her dad is still in the hospital(til probably Saturday)...
By the time we got to the hospital her bgl was dropped to 579 and high ketones...was totally in DKA...all that sucky stuff. Her pulse was 106bpm when we arrived. (She had taken her 20u of lantus and bolused in 15u of novolog...but puked b/f she could eat).
Then, this morning, her bp was 72/38 w/ a pulse of 53. Lovely, eh?

So, she had no ketones, no acidocis and her bgl's were in the 100's. They were going to keep us, but Eri didn't want to miss another day of school and she felt fine(except her heart pounding, which they don't do anything about) and all that.

I'm just pure exhausted. I ran between both hospitals today. Last night(well, this morning around 1), my husband called...wanted to leave b/c of a nurse...his pulse ox dropped to 80, his bp was 108...he suffered his first major anxiety attack and she was yelling at him. That left me feeling helpless.

Oh well...I'll shut up.
This is all ridiculous...
Here's Eri watching tv while waiting for another blood draw(every half hour)...

so she was allowed to come home you say? thats good atleast shes at home and comfortable there, atleast I would hope so, I myself am not fond of hospitals.

And by blood draws every half hour, you mean bgl checks or the real deal?

There has got to be a reason for these problems. I keep hoping you'll find it.

Thanks all...

Blood draws every half hour for bgls and to send to the lab for her blood gases and all that. She was out of acidocis quite quickly(I caught it fast enough, obviously not that fast if she went DKA, though...UGH)...I just knew when I got that call while in the hospital w/ my husband that Eri wasn't well.

I think it is a mix of things...the acid reflux is horrible, severe, actually, the gp,nervous about this procedure she is having on the 14th(she hates being put under) and she is totally stressed about her dad being so sick. They saw him last on Sunday and she's too young to see him(ok, by a year)....and I don't want her around infection now, especially since they STILL don't know if it is bacterial or viral pneumonia...and now they are running a BUNCH of other tests(obviously).
I know she's a bit nervous about school too. She is EXTREMELY home sick as well...she misses "home"(FL) more and more every day, butshe has to get over that.
Right now, I have to focus on her dad a LOT b/c they have no clue as to when he will be home, and that is eating away, not only at him and myself, but at the three kids as well.

Her bgl just now, though, was 83mg/dL Just to get her up and actually MOVING...lol...out the door so I can get her sister out to school as well and get up to the hospital.

Why is she not on a pump? She seems like a prime candidate for it. Hope you find a solution.

She's doing better today...from what I've seen since I have arrived home(in hospital w/ my husband)...
Her bgl was 83 this morning, then shot up to 148(she was stressing...we were arguing)...
She's getting ready for the pump...already have been to the advanced carb counting and is now on the lantus and novolog...she's doing great, it's just all the other things wrong with her...

It breaks my heart that she has to go through all this... but I'm so glad that she's doing better by now. Hopefully, when she's pumping that will cut down a lot on these types of issues. Sounds like she is ready for it and I think she will be amazed at how much better life can be while pumping... It really does give you more control over your Diabetes, and hopefully she'll be seeing only good results.

Anyway, I hope you can take a moment now to relax yourself... I don't know how you do it, but I admire your dedication to your family ...

Take care

I've certainly experienced that. Nurses can be angels or devils and you want to strangle the devils. Tell hubby to ask for another nurse. Life is too short.

If a nurse is not treating you properly, you can "fire" him/her! We've done it! Fired a doctor too!! They work for YOU! and if they can't handle thier work, and treat people with the respect and kindess that they deserve, they need to find another profession!

I know that when I'm sick, and in the hospital, I certainly don't want Nurse Ratchet taking care of me! All she's going to do is piss me off, and if I'm able, they're gonna get an EARFUL!! I want someone that is nurturing and caring!

Still keeping y'all in my toughts and prayers!
