1.5/mody

From what I hear, I'm a MODY because I was 13 when diagnosed, active, and a healthy weight. My question is what does this mean in the long run? Same goes for 1.5. I know it's latent autoimmune disorder something or other, right? Like a delayed type 1, started out as a type 2 and then becomes type 1 later or something. Anyway, what does it means for those long term with 1.5?

Just curious. Thanks in advance!

What MODY means in the long run depends on what gene alteration specifically caused your cause. MODY 3 is the most common, which follows almost the exact same thing as a type 2 diagnosis would mean, except with normal cholesterol and bp, and no need for weight loss.

So it really doesn't mean that much then? Just the genetic stuff? Hmm, I wonder, does that mean it's more likely for children to get it? My grandmother and mother both had/have type 2.

if you have MODY your children will have a 50/50 chance of developing it, as they are dominant genes.

For me having MODY i started out on diet+exercise, moved to oral meds and have now progressed onto insulin. In my family my mum is still only on oral meds and other family members are on insulin. so within my family, with the same genetic defect there are differences in the way our diabetes have developed.
