| | | Are you running low a lot, causing you to eat more, or just overall eating more at mealtimes without noticing? |

| | | I've had a few lows (50's)....
but i dont think ive really changed my eating....
Is it possible that my mostly crappy eating habits are adding the weight now that my BG is getting more under control? Does high BG keep you from putting on weight? |

| | | Matt5,I was actually told by my dr.that the better diabetic control you will gain weight, but it's not a matter of stopping it,it's more a matter of keeping active, walking and excercising to "control" the weight |

What a terrible incentive for good control that is!

| | | "Most people with Type 1 diabetes are not overweight. In fact, many are underweight when diagnosed with the disease, due to complications of high blood sugar." This was one of the quotes on a website I read. This is what I meant, about once you get better control, you will gain weight. |

| | | I must be the opposite then. Once I gained better control I LOST weight. Weight gain can be obtained either way, it's simply what do you eat and how much are you eating. And if you are going low more often, then you are eating food to counteract that low which means more calories which is more weight gain. The #1 reason type 1 diabetics gain weight is because of giving more insulin than is needed so they eat to cover it.

| | | Poorly controlled diabetes is associated with loss of weight due to loss of glucose in the urine. Any form of treatment that substantially lowers blood sugar levels and thereby reduces loss of glucose in the urine, is likely to be associated with an increase in weight. This is simply due to the calories which were previously ‘wasted’, being absorbed; fat and muscle bulk is restored.
Nothing can compare with good blood sugar levels. |
