Question Suspecting Diabetes

My insurance is non-existent, and my financial situation pretty poor, so I'm hoping that maybe someone here can tell me wether or not this is something I should make the expense to check out.

So for many years now, (since I was 9 or 10, possibly earlier) I have had insomnia. I saw a sleep specialist four years ago, but nothing has worked to treat it. Not drugs, not CPAP, not behavior modifications, etc.

Read up on diabetes and am seeing SOME similarities, and some contraindications, what do you think?

I have difficulty gaining weight (fat and muscle), even though I eat quite a bit and work out. If I eat a lot and work out often, I can gain weight easily to a point... and then it takes a gargantuan effort to get to the next level. For the amount of effort I put in, I don't compare to my peers who work out the same but eat far less.

I am always fatigued... I have trouble sleeping and I don't seem to gain any energy from eating.

My fasting blood sugar level from a test 3 years ago was 96.

I don't exercise much due to fatigue. When I do, it is weight lifting. But running and endurance exercises I can't maintain long.

When I was younger, I used to wake up in the middle of the night nauseas and throwing up for no reason at all. I'd be sick for the rest of the day... but I had no flu or cold-like symptoms... just nausea. This would happen once every few months, but stopped sometime during high school and has never happened again.

I wake up to use the restroom at night, up to 3 times a night.

Sometimes I feel pain in my chest, and sometimes from my heart... like little needles. Sometimes in my feet and lower legs.

I have frequent headaches, often after waking up.

My sleep is uninteruppted but unrefreshing. If I'm tired I'll fall asleep, but wake up feeling worse... at least for the first hour.

That's all I can think up at the moment. Will repost or clarify if need be.

Thanks for any comments

Welcom Super....
Glad U are here. My reccomendaion is to please have it checked. I know that your situation is not good right now, but this health alert is probably worth millions, even if it isnt Diabetes. Is there anyone U know that owns a meter?

Thanks Cinnabon

unfortunately no. I'll ask around and see if I can find one.

I should also mention I am 24. I'm thinking, given the young age at which symptoms started, its most likely I would have type 1 diabetes... does anyone know how long it takes for the insulin producing cells in the body to die off?? What age are they typically all gone?

Nowadays, There is No age for T1 or T2. I suggest, again, to please go to your doc, no matter what, U can even consider your ER.

Well I got myself a free accuchek and took some tests. Here are the results:

fasting 94 mg/dL
30 min after eating 141 mg/dL
2 hour after eating 114
1 hour after eating again 97 mg/dL
3 hours later 102 mg/dL

They seem all normal to me... I'll take a couple more tests tomorrow but I think I'm ok unless someone differs.
