| | | What are a1c's = to bg numbers? i read on here somewhere that a 6.2 was equal to a 145 average, but on Glycosylated hemoglobin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
it says that a 6 is a 120.
so which is right? is there any site that has it perfectly accurate?

| | | This is a chart I found when googling Hgb A1C blood glucose equivalent. I know there's also a chart by Dr. Bernstein, but this is the one i've printed out and keep to refer to. If you look under some of the posts from MarkTN, he has an equation for figuring it yourself as well.

What is the HbA1c test?
Home meter a couple of years old? It may read whole blood glucose. Click here to convert HbA1c to whole blood glucose. More info on plasma blood glucose vs. whole blood |

| | | The problem is you have to look at it two ways. One, plasma blood and whole blood. The two can vary and it depends on how old the chart is.
Here is the formula though....
HbA1c = (Plasma Blood Glucose + 77.3) / 35.6
Since most meters use Plasma now days....a 6.0% A1C is equal to about 136.3 mg/dl. In whole blood that is 121.7 mg/dl.

| | | for those who work in mmols I worked out a simple formula
average BG in mmols = 1.7 x HbA1C - 3.6
it matches the wiki amounts to +/- 0.1 mmol. The linear realtionship does not appear to hold much below 6.0% |
