March 27 - Diabetes Awareness Day

I have some family that have been diagnosed and now realize the impact that Diabetes has on our society.

I am looking for some info to send friends and family to educate them about the disease and promote prevention and wellness.

Does anyone have good links for this.

Thanks!

Hi Glucolog: Welcome. You should definitely have your family member(s) join the forum and ask all kinds of questions...it's a big help, especially when you're first trying to deal with a new diagnosis, and a continued help on a day-to-day basis.

For me, I found a great deal of information in Dr. Bernstein's Diabetic Solution..had a great deal of info the physiologic aspect of it. If they are T2, I've heard other mention a book by Gretchen Becker, but I've not read it yet. As far as websites go, for nutritional info, there's dietfacts.com, which gives national chain restaurants menus and all nutritional information, which is so helpful to check before going out for carb counts, etc.

All the reading material is great, but support from other diabetics is, IMHO, what has given me the most encouragment and inspiration to do what needs to be done to properly manage diabetes.

Hi Glucolog,
As Linda said, see if you can get them to sign up here, its the best place to educate them, IMO. Otherwise, there is a site that has a t1 diabetes starter kit, but please PM me if you want the link.

Kit.

I concur with what Linda and Kit said. This site would be very helpful for any diabetic and would certainly be a benefit for any family with diabetic members.
