hi guys...
some of you may not know, but they are training dogs to detect hypos's etc for diabetics.
this girl in this video is in another diabetes group i belong to on myspace

something about there sniffers and detecting that scent of a low etc.... i think they can even do highs...
you wouldnt wanna take a cat to a restaurant with ya, or eat least i wouldnt... a dog just lays down and is very good behaved.

I think that is cool and that there wouldn't be aproblem with them being accepted as service animals. It'd just be interesting how much it would cost and if it would be worth the cost since I doubt insurance would pay for one.

BTW one of the regulars over there (Liz) says she has cats alert her, but it seems to be a "natural" thing, and not a trained one.

My present dog who is a labrador goes one better he even picks up the biscuit/cookie container and brings it over to me.
He likes to share 
I am fully hypo aware but they have always told me before I would consider even treating the impending low.
Even odder though my very 1st dog developed diabetes when he was 13 yrs old but he couldn't tell me he was hypo

hmmmm interesting.... im more of a cat person myself, as i have two persians and two outdoor domestics and a outside dog.... but i would just think maybe a cat would be better suitable for being at home i dunno maybe cause cats can get spooked easier and maybe they might be easier to runway and lose than a dog etc... dogs you walk on leads etc....

| | This is kinda interesting. one because i had a dog who was diabetic so at first i was like....thinking thats what this thread was....i had to give my dog shots 3 times a day when i was 16 years old....long before i ever suspected i'd have this disease myself.
And then cause I may be getting a guide dog sometime in the near future and so it would be kind of cool if a dog could be my eyes and my glucose meter!~giggles~ ok mine already talks but still....maybe my new puppy can learn new tricks!

| | | When Eri was going hypo all the time and into seizures, we were told about the dogs who could sense them, etc...and we went and visited the place. It's pretty amazing.
We know a bit about the guide dogs bc my uncle is blind and has a guide dog(actually, his first one is retiring tomorrow and he's going to be placed w/ his new one on Saturday).
We just found out(well, we actually had a clue) that our labx is diabetic. She had a horrid seizure yesterday around 5am...honestly, some oj on her gums and a granola bar and she is completely fine afterwards.
