| | | I have two. ONe I got when I was 19 and its the chinese symbol for Elegance on my lower back. The other is the indian heart chakra. Well, my interpretation of it in the middle of my back between my shoulder blades. You dont see either of them unless i am wearing a singlet and then you can see the one between my blades. I am getting another soon of a saxophone with my mothers initials on the bottom. Its fairly scriptive.
My suggestion would be to find a design you like then sit on it for about six months. If you keep looking at it and still like it then consider getting it. Ive done that with all three so far and its worked quite well for me. |

I thought it was cute what cyborg said. It kinda sounds like he does think they're attractive. |

| To be honest I don't really like them on anyone, any more than I like multiple piercings. On women I just don't find them attractive (oh, I'm sorry, I have a particular taste in women, I must be such a Neaderthal) and on men, well, I just find them a bit obnoxious. But that's just me though - as if my opinion on tattoos should have even the slightest bearing on what you do with your body. |

I only have one -- and a small one...and I don't believe it makes me disgusting - ha ha!!

| | | I don't think that anyone has ever seriously regretted not getting a tattoo. The thriving tattoo removal business is evidence that plenty of people who do get them regret it. So to repeat my post, don't get a tattoo unless you know with absolute certainty that it is something that you want.
Try to imagine yourself at age 50 or 60 or 70 with the same marking. If you are absolutely sure that the tattoo you are getting reflects a core aspect of your personality that will not change over time, then fine. But if there's any hesitation at all, then there's not any reason to get a tattoo today.
My tattoo, by the way, is the Amnesty International symbol -- a burning candle surrounded by barbed wire. Back in the day when I was a professor, I was the campus sponsor of AI. Now that I'm a lawyer, it's a reminder of what drove me to the profession. So I like my tattoo, but I was well in my 30s before I got it. |

| | Well this old codger also wonders why I see cheap looking tattoos all over otherwise beautiful young women. It makes me think that tattoos are often chosen to please others, to get a reaction from parents or boyfriend or someone else. Or to fill that empty spot... Or ironically to make yourself unique... but since seemingly everyone has one thats kind of funny
As was stated before make sure that the design you pick will still have the same meaning to you when you are in the "wrinkle ranch"...

| | EXACTLY -- if YOU love it (YOU) -- then it does not matter what anyone else thinks....
That is...of course...if you have it blaring in everyone's face, then I think you're making yourself open to opinions!!

| | Hi smaj611.
Have you ever seen that show Miami Ink? I feel indifferent about tattoos but I love the show. Its strangely addictive.
One of their artists/main characters is a Type1. On one of the episodes another T1 came in to get the kind of tattoo you are describing. It was a ginormous syringe breaking through a brick wall and then there was a japanese character for strength if I remember correctly.
I didn't care much for it, but your post reminded me of the episode. I like the idea of just the kanji (sp?) character though...
Good luck with the tattoo! |

I am also a huge fan of the show. I saw that episode, and as I didn't relly like the end tatoo either, I think the meaning behind it fit. It was HUGE!

I have a friend (who's in her 60s) that has a tattoo on her wrist of a caduceus & the word "Diabetes" on it (& another one which reflects an allergy, but can't remember what it is at the moment ). To me, it looks beautiful. The colors are vivid & the artwork is awesome.
I have a number of tattoos myself, and truthfully, don't regret a one of them. Most of the time, I forget they're even there! lol. I have some on my ankle and a couple on one of my arms.
I know that some are saying that people ought to consider how it will look when we become "old & wrinkled," but my personal thoughts on that are, why think so far ahead, when there are No guarantees in life!? We may not make it to tomorrow, so might as well live & enjoy today!
Lastly, if a potential "love interest" is turned off by your tattoo(s), then maybe they're not the right one for you. True beauty, after all, comes from within.

| | | Rocky, did you read my reply to your intro post? I swear you are like my long lost twin! lol
Anyway, yeah that tattoo was huge. I think that if people like something enough to decorate their body with it permanently, then they should do it. Whatever makes people happy is fine... Tattoos just aren't for me.
I went through a phase where I thought wearing a medical ID was the worst thing ever. I almost got one tattooed on my wrist. Now that I'm older I am SO glad I didn't!!!!! |

Hahaha, yes I did, and perhaps we are! So glad to finally meet my other half! I actually haven't worn a medic alert for years... I should probably look into changing that.
