| | I need your help. I have tested my basals and everything seems to work out just fine for me when I fast. However, at two very specific times a day I tend to go low or very close to a hypo. For example, if I test at 11:00AM I might be at 6.0 (114), and by 11:50AM I'm at 4.2 (75). The other example is at 4:30PM I might be at 8 (144) and by 6:00 I'm 3.6 (64). Trust me, I've dropped my basals so much, to .05U/hour and to nothing per hour, for up to 3 hours prior to those times, and I still go low. Now, I have my theory as to why that happens (actually, it is my wife's theory), but I'd like to know what you guys think before I say mine (so as not to sway opinions). I might be wrong, so I need your input/theories/help.

| | | Sounds like you are going low because either your basals are too high (which you've tried adjusting) or your I:C ratio is off for breakfast and/or lunch.

| | | I would adjust the I:C ratios next, as Cyborg said. |

| | | I've been experiencing the same phenomenon. I believe my IC ratios need lowering. I also find absorption a big influence: make sure you avoid any 'slow' sites. |

| | | See, we were thinking that given my C-Peptide came back at 384p/mol (which is the low end of normal) that perhaps my body is pumping out insulin at those times (noon and 5:30pm) in anticipation of eating a meal (since I eat a regular times). That would explain the sudden severe drop of 3-4 mmols in an hour. My problem is, I'm not sure if a body secretes insulin in a normal person in anticipation of a meal, but my wife is sure that happens. What do you think?

| | | No, a normal person doesn't secrete insulin in anticipation of a meal. It doesn't need to- naturally made insulin effects blood sugar instantly.
Also, if your body realizes your bs is dropping, natural insulin production will stop. |

| | | I have tried dropping my basal to .05 units and shut it off completely for up to three hours prior to the two trouble times. And the weird thing is how I can have a 3-4mmol drop in one hour which does not sound like a I/C ratio thing since those two times happen at least 5 hours past my last meal bolus'. If I were to increase my I/C ratio I'd start getting higher numbers at my 2 hour post meal and I like being under 10mmol at that time.
Right now I snack at those two times just to be safe.
