Question Donating blood

I am donating blood on Friday. I have type 1 diabetes and will be 18 on thursday. Does anyone know what effect donating blood has on a diabetic? Will it change my blood sugar?

I would call your blood service first. In Canada insulin-dependant individuals can't donate.

I donate pretty regularly - thru the red cross
The process does nothing to my BG levels
I try to get a close to normal as I can before going in.

The snack table they sit you at afterwards, can be a challenge

Around here there is a private company called Carter Blood Care - they do corporate events - bring a donation bus to my work. I had a bad experience with them. I had a teenager who claimed she was a nurse turn me down because I mentioned the word neuropathy, she couldn't spell it, didn't know what it was, but was sure it excluded me... As a result I will never attempt to give through them...
