I started on animal based insulin in 1986 and switched to synthetic in 1987.

I was diagnosed in 1987 and I remember the endo telling me how good the newer "human" insulins were. That's all I've known. Currently using Humalog.

There are many people who can not use synthetic/gm insulin for 1 reason or another and yes natural/animal insulin is still manufactured(if not I dread to think what I am injecting into me)

I can remember those insulins that has only the ability to eat like similar to the animal and thank god that there are insulins that can handle the complex diet that we love!!

I can remember Isophane and monotard and mixotard and i think they are U100 insulins because we used the plastic disposable syringes.

Basically, I ask myself:

"Self, does it matter what you're using?"

To which I respond:

"Well, you know that you are, after all, an animal."

That's true and should be kept in mind at all times

You mean like when you get your fingers too close to my mouth?

Well, that is one example that comes to mind

So, back to the point at hand......

Don't get that hand too near my mouth again

Will you just focus?

Why? Is she back

No, but that doesn't matter

Of course it does. It always matters who's here.

******, just answer the question

Fine, be that way.

Thank you.

Now, are you using animal or not?

For what??!! Are you being disgusting again?

Insulin, Insulin, INSULIN , insulin, insulin

Nope, I don't think they insulate well at all. In fact, animals move so much that you just can't depend on them for anthing.

You Pompous Ignoramous. You know very well I was talking about the insulin you use.

Yeah ( smiles to myself) I know that; but do THEY know that?

Just who are you pointing at?

Them. Those ones. The ones who're watching.

Ignore them. They have their own debates taking place

Really? What do you suppose they're debating?

I imagine they're debating the true value of literature like Abbott and Costello"s Who's On First? Who's On First Script

Why would they debate that? That's a given

Pretty sad ending there fella

I gave blood this weekend, and the only stipulation for diabetics is that you not be taking animal insulin (for fear of mad cow disease ). I thought the questionnaire was kind of dated, because like many...I assumed it was all synthetic these days.
