I think I'm considered a heavy drinker

I usually consume 2 to 3 liters of water per day. I don't know why, I just have some kind of oral fixation or something. Does anyone know if drinking this amount water is good for your health? I heard that drinking too much water flushes the vitamins out of your system.

P.S. My sugars are rarely high (> 200), so it's not related to hyperglycemia.

I think 2 to 3 liters of water intake is fine.

I usually get up to around 3 liters of water a day, depending on how active I've been.

A kidney specialist did a study about whether is was necessary for people to drink 8 glasses of water a day. He found that the 8 glasses of water a day had no basis in fact.

Quote:
In an invited review published online by the American Journal of Physiology August 8, Valtin, the Vail and Hampers professor emeritus of physiology at Dartmouth Medical School, reports no supporting evidence to back this popular counsel, commonly known as "8 x 8" (for eight, eight-ounce glasses). The review will also appear in a later issue of the journal.

Dartmouth Medical School - 'Drink at Least 8 Glasses of Water a Day' - Really?

My impression is that people should drink as much as their body tells them they need at the time. This will vary with the temperature, their activity level, and state of health. If you want to drink a lot of water, I don't think there's any harm but also I don't think there's any good.

I didn't mean to scare you, just wanted to use a catchy title.

A good indicator of whether you are taking in too much fluid is your serum electrolyte levels as indicated on a standard metabolic blood panel. Too much fluid intake can lower your serum sodium, potassium, and/or, chloride levels. I think this will be different for every one. If your electrolyte levels stay normal than your current fluid intake should be fine (although the more you drink the more work your kidneys have to do). On the other side of the coin low electrolyte levels can cause problems. Back in Feb (see my latest Labs in my sig) my labs came back with below normal levels of serum sodium and chloride. The fix was to cut back on fluid intake. It took a few days to break the habit of always drinking something, but now on most days I drink only about 64-96oz of fluids.

I wish I could drin that much water... but I usually have to force myself to drink any water at all . I'm a self-proclaimed diet soda addict and, sadly, I don't think I'll be able to kick that habit .

I used to be addicted to diet coke. But ended up kicking that habit. Trust me, it was tough.

You are getting a lot of water in the soda. problem is you are getting a lot of sodium which makes you pee and makes you thirsty. Try drinking flavored water to help you kick the soda habit

Adam, how did you get off the diet soda ... I have no idea on how to do it? I've tried just about everything! The thing is I really don't like water or even the flavored kinds... so I'm at a loss.

Thanks for your help
