My big toe and numbers

I have been waiting to be sure, and still am leary about posting it for fear I will jinx things.....but I have a 2 week fasting average of 105! My highest reading has been 119! This is great for me as I could not get my fasting below 155 average, no matter what I did, for the longest time. The doctor raised my bedtime Lantus to 80, and that seemed to do the trick. The only problem I see, is that I seem to be having more daytime lows, and am thinking about stopping the morning Lantus. Should I do that all at once, or just reduce it a little at a time?
Oh and for some reason my big toe on my right foot is really hurting! I dion't see any ingrown toenails or redness, but it is just throbbing. I don't think there is a possibility of Gout, I do not have a rich diet, eat very little meat and all of it lean, and no sauces at all. I have a pretty healthy diet. This has been happening starting 2 weeks ago....just about the time I got my fasting numbers under control. hmmmm!

Good Job Mrs. Money Penny .

How many units of Lantus were you on before? You probably don't want to do it all at once. If you did it that way you would have to skip a shot or take a 150% dose in the course of 24 hours. It's late though and I am not thinking to clearly, so I am not sure what the best way to approach it is (imo).

I was on 70 at night, 20 in the morning. My numbers all day were great, but fasting was terrible. I raised it 2 units every couple of days until I started having regular acceptable fasting levels at 80. But I am having at least 2 lows a day, between 40 and 60. I could maybe reduce my Novoflex injections before meals, to see if that helps.....I can always take more if it doesn't do the job.

We often compensate our wrong doses in one area wih the opposite doses in others. Now that your basal is higher, your boluses may need to come down. If you are only on Lantus, maybe the daytime Lantus and/or meds need to come down.

The foirst rule I follow is take things slow and test a lot around the areas in question - hourly if you can for awhile.

I didn't think about reducing my Metformin, but I am starting to have a few stomach problems again, and thought about talking to the doctor about that. I dont see him for another month, so I might wait to start making changes, unless it gets worse. He leaves the insulin basically up to me, but I do take an awful lot of pills.

10 units is a 14% increase. I would imagine that you would for sure have a bit of a insulin:carb ratio change because of that basal increase.

Since you aren't on a 50/50 split of lantus, it should be easier to get back to 1 shot / day if you want, but I agree with you in probably dropping your novo to help stop the hypos. I am not well educated on metaformin.

i agree, reducing your novo with meals sounds like the right thing. if you use a ratio of 1:10 try 1:11 instead or 1:12.

your lantus seems to be doing its job so just the bolus needs tweaking until you find a balance again.

not a clue about the toe thing!
