I have a cold and am new to Insulin.

Do I need to do anything differently?
My appetite is poor because of this virus but numbers ok so far.
My concern is that because I'm new to Insulin (5th day) I might mess it all up.
Do I need to use liqiud nutriton when I can't face food?
Or do I cut the Insulin down?
Any advice welcome.

Heather.

Just drink plenty of fluids and keep a check on your bg. Eat when you feel up to it. Don't worry so much about the insulin if your numbers are ok.

A doctor will normally tell you to keep taking your insulin and eat when you feel like it. Normally I will test way more often when I'm sick... With a cold, I don't feel unwell enough not to eat, but everyone is different. Usually you won't have a problem keeping foods down, so if you do get low, eat some glucose tablets, or drink some orange juice or something.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

hi heather, just keep an eye on those Bg's, you are more likely to go higher while you fight any infection.
keep taking the basal doses as normal, you only need to take bolus insulin if you are eating or if your BG's are running a bit high.
