Anniversary

16 years ago today I was diagnosed with diabetes.

I never made peace with it. I still see diabetes as a vindictive and evil pest, sitting on my shoulder and meddling in everything I do. I don't think I will ever accept it as gracefully as Dewey, Gangrel and a lot of you have. Being philosophical this morning, I have also tried to think of something good that has come out of having it and failed.

Ok, I did not mean to sound so depressing. I am not sad or angry! In fact I am proud to have come this far, having accomplished so much in my life, with the only complication being a few lasers for retinopathy.

Plus of course, the whole point of this post is to celebrate my anniversary with the entire DF!

I have no idea what my life would have been like without diabetes so I have nothing to compare it with. I lead a very healthy life style due to being a diabetic. Yes it would be nice not to have diabetes but you have to accept it as it will not go away. There are a lot worse things to get. I try to focus on the positive things in life. My wife and kids and what I have been able to do in life. Diabetes is just another daily challenge to deal with. It sounds like you are doing quite well with it. Just keep up the good work and you should be rewarded with a long healthy life.

Well, happy anniversary!!!! I'll take the next 16 years to work on your mood around diabetes, but today is simply a day for cake, wine, and... uh... more wine.

I have had it for 16 years myself on May 11th, I know how you feel. I have felt worse about diabetes in the past year then I have ever felt. It is hard, I know but we made it this far and we will make it another 50 yay...

Congrats to you for coming so far. Every year & every day of life is a milestone, on one level or another. Don't worry about accepting it, just worry about controlling it, and you'll be fine. (((((Hugs))))) & love to you!

I hope we're all still in touch in 2011 (20th anniversary), alive, well and posting on exdiabeticsforums.com.
