Find a way to get back somewhere where there was insulin and food. You can go for a few days, even maybe a couple of weeks without insulin. You won't feel good, but you can temporarily put up with it.

I think the key question at that point is do you have water? Now about that food - if you are a type 1 and have no insulin, do not eat food. You can survive without eating for a few days. Not so much without insulin.

I tried doing without insulin once over a weekend by eating very low carb - didn't work so well. Ended up in the hospital with DKA.

cheers,
j

Pray for someone to rescue me... barring that, use all of the survivalist skills I have to make it back to civilization before I die of starvation or DKA.

eat very low carb and drink plenty of water, i still have some of my own insulin production so i'd be allright for quite a while, i wouldn't go into DKA.

I honestly hate threads like this. Any person is pretty much screwed in the above situation, and any type 1 diabetic is very screwed. There's really no other answer. So what's the point of this? Do you fear ever being in this situation and want to know what to do in it? Or is it more about rubbing our dependence in our faces?

I would search for a pig and start producing some R insulin. I have no idea how I'd start doing that, but I'd try.

If that didn't work, then I'd search for some dolphins in the ocean and let them lead me to other humans.

I'd light a fire, and go hunting for meat.
