| | | Travelling I was the just wondering if anybody has been stopped at the airport with their insulin pens & monitoring machines?
I have just come back from a long w/e in Dublin & I felt a bit aprehensive as my bag went through the scanner waiting to see if they are picked up on screen. I know I have absolutely nothing to worry about even if my bag is searched but I always get nervous for some silly reason!!!

| | | I just tell they people at the scanners up front that I'm diabetic and I keep my supplies separately so I can point out which bag all of my junk is in. I also carry my rx printouts w/ me so I have "backup" proof.
Haven't been troubled as of yet because of that stuff, but I do seem to have to take my shoes off most of the time.

| | | Happened to me once on a flight back from Spain a few years ago. They spotted it on the scanner when I put my handluggage through and wanted to double-check but they realised pretty quickly that it was insulin so I got through, no problems. Only time I've ever been stopped as well, and I've flown quite a bit since being dxd. Really want to fly out to the States, see how they react to it! |

| | I thought that I was going to have problems when I went to the states in the Easter, had notes from Doctors and everything just in case, but everything was fine, didn't even get checked once, well apart from on the way back from Heathrow to Edinburgh I had my bag randomly checked but they passed it by.
Never been stopped in the UK either, I always tell the people at check out that I am carrying pens with needles, and they just tell me to tell the air stewards and all is fine

| | ... can't stab someone to death with a lancet now can you?
They've looked at my stuff carefully. No more. I think the lady who inspected my supplies didn't realize it wasn't a 'normal' pen.

| | | I've never been stopped (& fly at least twice a year) but I still always feel nervous!
Deus - I was in LA last year & Boston this year but apart from taking off my shoes I had no problems. I wonder what they look for on their screens then! |

| | I haven't flown since I was dxd but it should be interesteing here in Chicago because you get treated like a criminal to begin with. This is a bit but I was escorting a friend with a baby to the gate and since I wasn't flying I got flagged as "extra security" so I had to go in the line off to the side where they spend 5 minutes interrorgating each person. They wouldn't even let me have my cell phone when it started ringing I understand the extra security but not to even let me have my phone? I thought we lived in a free country

| | | I have flown many many times internationally since 9/11. I have never been stopped. I did have someone ask me what was on my waistband once (my pump) and I told them and nothing more was said. I carry large needles with a large reservoir and nobody has said a word. When I was in Africa last year my luggage was being hand searched (they did that to all passengers) they asked if I had anything sharp in my bag and I disclosed my supplies. They asked me to give them to the flight attendant while onboard the plane. Knowing I would forget them when I changed planes I dediced to do nothing unless they asked. They never did. Flying has been easy, but I still carry a letter from my physician and the original Rx on all packages. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
