| | | New here. Really confused! Hi everybody. My name is Amanda and I'm 29. 2 weeks ago I went in to have my gallbladder taken out. During my pre-op they drew some blood. I had eaten about 30 min before then. The next morning the nurse saw on her notes that the day before my blood sugar was at 100 and the surgeon wanted my sugars checked again before surgery. So she checked me and it was at 125. I had been fasting for 9 hours. A week later I went to see my regular Dr. and he told me that it looks like I have pre-diabetes and wanted to see me again in a month to do more testing. Right before I was about to leave I stood up and got really dizzy, started sweating, and felt sick to my stomach. He checked my blood sugar and it was 65. He gave me some oj and checked me again and it was at 74. About 10 min later I started to feel better. Well this past two weeks I have been experiancing symptoms that I have never felt before. On and off through out the day I feel really shaky. When it gets bad I physicaly shake, other times it's just the inside of my body that shakes. It's sspecially bad when I first wake up. Sometimes it gets better after I eat, sometimes not. Like right now, the shakiness is so bad it's hard to type. I checked my blood sugar with my uncles meter and it was 143. I have been really tired lately.( but that might be due to my receint surgery?) My mouth is so dry at times that I have to drink a glass or more to get my mouth normal again. My tongue also feels really weird. It feels tingly and sorta numb. And sometimes I feel it on my bottom lip. My face and chest has also been breaking out like crazy. I have never had more than 2 pimples at a time. Not even as a teen. Now my face is broken out all over the place. I also have been sweating out of nowhere. I will be just sitting here in a AC room, and I will get dizzy and start sweating. And my skin has been really dry. I try to put lotion on, but that doens't help for very long. And sometimes my heart starts racing like crazy even if I haven't been moving around. It feels like it is going to pound out of my chest, and it's beating really fast. Or at least that's what it feels like.
All of these symptoms started after I had my gallbladder removed. Is there a link to diabetes and this surgery? I looked online and a non-fasting blood sugar level of 143 for somebody that does not have diabetes is normal. Could this be diabetes or is there another sickness that acts like diabetes? Should I get in to see my Dr. sooner, or wait another 2 weeks like he said? And it's obvious that my blood sugars are not too low right now, so what is making me feel this way? The shaking is bad and I don't know how to get rid of it. Does all of this sound like pre-diabetes or even diabetes?
Thanks, and sorry this is so long. Any thoughts or info anybody could give me would be great! I'm trying to learn as much as I can, but it seems that every site says something different.
Thanks
~Amanda~ |

| | | If you are having hypoglycemia, often a pre-cursor to diabetes, you may want to carry some glucose tabs with you to quickly help when your bg drops too low. Good luck and welcome aboard.

| | | Made your post a new thread. Had my gallbladder out 7 months post dx. First there are other possibilities of which thyroid problems come to mind causing bg swings. However my own experience, although not as bad, was similar to yours before dx. With insulin resistance there eventually seems to be a delayed response to glucose levels in both too much and too little. As I mentioned there are other possibilities that may cause both gall bladder disease and diabetes. You need to have a thorough check out for thyroid and liver diseases as well as any autoimmune problems. |

| | | Hi Amanda & Welcome to the forum.
According to the ADA.....Normal fasting blood glucose is below 100 mg/dl. A person with pre-diabetes has a fasting blood glucose level between 100 and 125 mg/dl. If the blood glucose level rises to 126 mg/dl or above, a person has diabetes.
I'd call the doctor back and see if you can't be seen sooner. Ask him to write you a prescription for test strips & a meter. If you have insurance, they will pay for them under your durable medical goods. If you don't, Walmart sells inexpensive meters and test strips.

| | | Hi Amanda: Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. My advice to you would be to see your doctor, share with him/her all the symptoms you've described and have a good physical with lots of blood work. If you have something going on, this would probably pin-point the culprit.
Prior to my diagnosis, I would wake in the middle of the night with my heart pounding and feel very sweaty...other times I would feel weak and shaky. I was bone weary all the time. These feelings sent me to the doctor, but blood work properly diagnosed diabetes. After diagnosis and treatment, I couldn't believe how much better I feel.
Your symptoms could very well be diabetes, or several other things, so the best bet is to get a definitive diagnosis from your doctor. Keep us posted.

| | | If your doctor witnessed your low blood sugar and needed to treat it to bring it back to normal, you should have more answers. If I were you, I would go back to your doctor or find another doctor and explain your symptoms.
Take a trip back to the doctor and get help. If it is pre-diabetes, there is things you can be doing to help prolong your "pre" status. |

| | | Try to get a referral to an endocrinologist, preferably one specializing in diabetes. Internists don't know anything about managing diabetes, they frequently mis-diagnose the type of diabetes, and I'm getting so sick of hearing about newly diagnosed diabetics being given flat-out bad advice. Even endos can be morons, but there's where you'll have your best chance at a good start. |
