Storing test strips

Is it safe to take test strips out of the container they come in and store them in another container for a short time? I really hate how huge the test strip containers are and would like to put some strips in a side pocket of my meter case or something. It would be dark in there, but do the containers have other special features that are important to preserving the strips properly?

They're generally airtight, so that's what you should be aiming for. Contact the stip maker and ask them if they have a smaller container suitable for storing the strips. They should oblige for free.

You should not store them in another container or in the pocket of your meter pouch. Keep them in the vial they came in.

Speaking for the One Touch test strips: Their container has a built-in humidity absorbing lining in the vial. The strips are very sensitve to the humidity of normal room air. They need to be kept in the dry environment within the manufacturer's container.

I second that slippery. I took 15 accu-chek strips out of the container, forgot about them and 3 days later used one. I thought I was coming down with something! After a second check on my other meter and then a recheck, the strips that were in the open were reading over 50 points higher. I have then in an old accu-chek container now (drying out) and will check one tomorrow. Jack
