Avandia (4mg)?

Hi everyone, I have not had time to make my formal introduction but I would like to know if anyone takes Avandia (4mg) and how does it work for them. Does anyone know anything good or bad with these meds.

The few people that I knew of on Avandia have been recommended to stop and change meds by their Dr's. You might want to Google "Avandia recall" and read some articles before taking. I guess it's up to the user if they start on it or continue on it.

Took 4mg of Avandia for five years with no apparent problems. A1c's ranged from 5.8 to 6.5. It was the 6.5 that caused the doc to up it to 8mg. Actually I take 2 4mg's a day at the same time. The insurance would not pay for 8mg pills, go figure. The best ting I can tell you if you take is to pay attention to your body and watch out for water retention. Especially if it causes you legs to swell, which is were it usually shows up first. Any chest pain while taking it call your doc asap. My doctor, in the light of taking it for 6 years with no problems, felt the increase of patients with side effects was rather minor. Be sure to read the pamlet concerning warnings and side effects.

I wouldn't stop taking Avandia without consulting my doctor... and as for new meds, he'll have suggestions as to what may work best for you.

My Stepmom was on Avandia, has been off now since the recall. Her #'s are going up slightly, but she is not on any diabetic medication at this time. Doc said he'd put her on something if A1C gets above 7. She had been on Avandia for 6-7 years. The swelling in her feet has also resolved.

My brother in law was on Avandia, Metformin and Lantus...he stopped Avandia on the advice of his doctor and has had to up his Lantus dose. Everyone is different.
