Why would you want to get it up a bit? Unless, of course, it's a result of averaging extreme highs and lows. My endocronologist considers 4.8 to be perfect so it sounds to me as though you're doing well.

Many articles and much debate about Diabetics being below 5.5.
Apparently research is indicating that below 5.4 means you may, M-A-Y, be having too many lows which can lead to

1. insensitivity to lows--very dangerous

2. brain damage---not so good either

there seems to be much new knowledge on the horizon because more people are keeping their B/Gs lower than ever before thanks to all the new types of devices that are more effective in keeping track of B/Gs coupled with newer insulins and delivery devices

Jared and Diabetic-Canada, congrats on the decreasing A1c's!! Fantastic!

Mine was 6.7 in March, up a bit from pre-pump days. I like for it to sit at about 5.0%, anything significantly less and I feel like a zombie. Plus the risk of hypo insensitivity.

That's why I acknowledged that it's not good if it's due to extremes of highs and lows. I haven't been on this forum long enough to know whether lgvincent keeps his blood sugars in a narrow range or not. If he does, I still say his A1C is pretty close to perfect.

My last one was 5.3, I go towards the end of the month for my next visit, so we will see what happens. Hopefully stays the same or up just slightly.

Yeah, I feel awesome, never felt better in my life...Although, that may also be due to the fact that right now I am loving life, and everything seems to be going great...

I definately feel better when my numbers are lower...

You must feel pretty good about that kind of improvement in such a short time. Good for you!

Congrats on your lower numbers, Diabetic-Canada!

Just saw the doc today and the results of the blood test I had
2 days ago show my A1C went down to 5.8. It was around 8
when I was Dx'd in Jan. 2004. (I have T2). Also, my thyroid TSH level is now normal, and my LDL is also normal.

The triglycerides are still a bit high, and I need to get the HDL higher, but the doc is not too worried about these 2 items.

I lost 19 pounds. WOOOHOOO!!!!

My last A1C was 6.6 as well. I am not so sure how the next one is going to be...I have a bad feeling that it's going to be worse, especially with the numbers I have been seeing lately. I certainly hope not, but even if things have changes for the worse it will sort of motivate me to work harder. ..at least I hope so.
