| | | Disappointed I spent a long time thinking of what kind of tattoo I wanted. Then I spent a long time picking a place to have it done. Then I waited a long time to get my appointment. Then I went today to have my tattoo done only to be turned away. They gave me the waiver to sign and because I am diabetic they would not do it. I need to go to my doctor and get a note saying I can have the tattoo done. I was so disappointed. It was like waking up Christmas to no gifts. I just think considering I have been in once for a drawing appointment and once to approve the drawing that MAYBE somewhere in there somebody could of had me read the waiver before today. I guess shame on me for not thinking it was a big deal. Just when I start to feel normal....I am reminded again I am not. I am going to try and get the note tomorrow. Wish me luck.

| | | Uck! Sorry to hear that stupidity. A waiver, I
agree with since it's not their fault you're Diabetic
and something happens to you due to your Diabetes.
But a Drs. note??? That's like a Mommy's permission....
okay I presume that you are an adult.
My Older Bro was Type 1 for 48 yrs., had lots of tattoos
even put his own on(he was an artist). Never had a
problem with them. Many diabetics had them done with
no permission no problem.
Just keep your sugars in control, take services only from
an experienced reputable Tattoo Company that uses sterile
equipment and does NOT reuse ink(hard to prove unless
you see them unseal a new container).
Best of Luck to you in getting your tattoo and not having
any problems.
p.s There are other threads on this topic...just put into search.

| | | I have two of them. one on my ankle and one on my left shoulder. The guy that does mine knows I have a Mitral Valve Prolapse and I am supposed to take antibiotics before doing anything that consists of bleeding...... I took my meds both times and he still made me sign a waiver saying that he wasn't responsible for anything involved if I had issues with it.
This was before I found out I have Diabetes... but I am sure if I went back and told him, it would be the same thing. He didn't make me go to the Dr, but he did make me sign a waiver pulling him from any responsibility.
I have mine where they are discreet and very small... one is a Unicorn in a heart on my right ankle, the other is my husband's name in a bed of Cherokee Roses. BUT I only got his name there after 20 years of marriage like I promised him I would do. I wouldn't dream of doing it before then... lol

I wouldn't dream of doing it before then... lol | I already have one tattoo on the back of my hip. I want to get my husbands name tattoed on my back this time. Its a beautiful drawing. Its 4 tribal sea turtles going up my back on a curve with a larger turtle leading the 3 smaller turtles. The names of my husband and children will be on the back of each shell. Along both sides of the turtles are going to be brightly colored plumeria and orchid flowers. I am really excited..... I hope I can get that letter today. I talked about getting another tattoo for quite awhile. When I told my hubby that I wanted his name on me suddenly it was a priority to him that I have it done and he drove me to make the appointment for the drawing. I got such a kick out of that. He makes me laugh. We have been married 15 years now.
Thanks for sharing with me.

. | Thank you for the good wishes and sharing with me. Yes, I am an adult. hehehehehe I do think that its a little crazy to need my doctors permission. I would have not problem signing a waiver. I may be disappointed but I am not upset with the artist at all for wanting to cover all the bases. She told me that her Mother In Law and another relative were diabetic and she just took it very seriously. I completely respect that.
You mentioned your brother had work done...do you have any?

| | | I was going to have his name on me the first go around with the Unicorn, but at thelast minute I decided not to. I wanted to wait a little longer. So our deal was, if we are still married at 20 years, I will have it done. I looked and looked for a good year to find something I wanted to make it mean something.. and it just made sense, I am mostly Cherokee Indian, (and Irish) and I wanted to make it mean something.....
I found what I wanted, him and the Cherokee Roses, which I will post in a minute.. but these two things meant a great deal to me. I spent so long making it and then it hit me, while I wanted it to be a surprise, what would mean more than to have HIM, the man I loved and wanted to share this with, design it for me. So that's how it went.
Here is a brief bit of info on the Cherokee Rose.... and I think being with my husband for 23 yrs says enough of why his name went with it. When gold was found in Georgia, the government forgot its treaties and drove the Cherokees to Oklahoma. One fourth of them died on the journey west. When the Trail of Tears started in 1838, the mothers of the Cherokee were grieving and crying so much, they were unable to help their children survive the journey. The elders prayed for a sign that would lift the mother’s spirits to give them strength. God, looking down from heaven, decided to commemorate the brave Cherokees and so, as the blood of the braves and the tears of the maidens dropped to the ground, he turned them into stone in the shape of a Cherokee Rose. The next day a beautiful rose began to grow where each of the mother’s tears fell. The rose is white for their tears; a gold center represents the gold taken from Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem for the seven Cherokee clans. No better symbol exists of the pain and suffering of the "Trail Where They Cried" than the Cherokee Rose The wild Cherokee Rose grows along the route of the Trail of Tears into eastern Oklahoma today.
I have a pic somewhere of it, I'll see if I can locate it. It means so much to me.

| | | Michelle, if it were me I would have not filled that out at all. Screw that. And I have a few tattoos.
Now, I don't want to sound critical or sound like I am accosting your choice of a tattoo--but the shop SHOULD have turned you away for wanting to put your hunny's name anywhere on your body. That's bad joo-joo in the tattoo industry. I have had at least a dozen tattoo artists tell me they won't do that sort of work, because in their experience the bad karma is consistent with that sort of a tattoo...I'm not sayin', but I'm just sayin'...

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I have been married over 15 years now to my Husband. He is an amazing father, my best friend, and my lover. No matter what the future may hold.... He has heard a place in my heart and on my turtle.
