What testing meter to use?

I have an Accu check advantage plus & Acensia Breeze. I just tested my bloo and I had a 130mg/dl with accu check, 118mg/dl with the Acensia breeze. How can they be so different? I usually use the accu check because i have a lot of strips from the dr for it.. I have a R'x for both meters. Also I ate too much at the buffet today. Is this normal.

6:00pm - Ate Crawfish Etoufe with about 1 cup of white rice, 1 slice of brisket, 1 fried catfish strip, 1/2 cup of mac and cheese, and one cup of sugar free ice cream with 3 fresh strawberries cut up in it.

8:00pm - 255 mg/dl
9:00pm - 200 mg/dl (walked for 10 minutes)
10:00 pm - 130 mg/dl(accu check) 118mg/dl(acensia breeze)
For those who dont know, i am 27 yrs. old, 5'11, 150lbs

So Brian... starting to see that rice and pasta are not your friends yet? LOL

I recently got an accucheck and I find it reads higher than my One touch meters....i guess it doesn;t really matter which meter you use, it gives you the gist of whats happening.. they are all only supposed to be accurate + or - 20%..so you can add a bit or take it away.. it's just a guide.. your A1c will tell the tale... an accurate meter would be nice, but not sure there is such an animal...

I have Optium Xceed and freestyle mini, haven't noticed much difference between them, unless blood taken from leg, palm of hand or arm with freestyle mini is either extremely high or low, i will then recheck from finger tip, with maybe a little difference either way.

Do you have the old Breeze, or the new Breeze 2? I recently switched to the Breeze 2 and found that it read about 15% higher than my old Breeze.

The old Breeze used to give readings based on glucose in whole blood. The new Breeze 2 like many other of the newer meters, including I believe all the Accucheks, convert the reading to plasma glucose. For the same sample the plasma glucose reading will be on average 11% higher than the whole blood reading and this is a likely explanation for the differences you are getting.

I am still trying to establish whether the ACE/IDF targets (<7.7 mM 2 h post-meal and 4-6 mM before meals) are based on plasma or whole glucose. Anyone with any info on this?

BTW: If you are using the old Breeze and like it, I would recommend the Breeze 2. It's still the size of a coffin, but you get a reading in 5 seconds and it no longer needs a blood sample big enough to make a black pudding.

Freestyle Flash. Size, function, and accuracy make it a winner in my book.
