Aww Dewey. Gee I hope this is not the case that's he's a type 2. He may get away with just the diet & exercise. Me crossing fingers.

Also, throughout the night, he got up a couple of times to go to the bathroom...

This morning, he complained again of consistent thirst, so I checked him prior to breakfast (Fasting) & he was 120.
Meh, It's borderline Dew. What's he like physically, Is he on the move most of the day?

After breakfast (approx. 3 or 4 hours later), his BG was 140. I know these levels may not seem high, but I'm still concerned given the fact that his mom's a T2, his sister is T2 & he's currently experiencing some symptoms or "warning signs" of D (frequent urination, excessive thirst).
Don't be too concerned, Still get some blood work done and then hope for the best result.

Just wanted to share...Not sure what to make of it (if anything) just yet, but I'll be watching over him to be safe.
(((Hugs))) It's borderline Dewey, But still watch him so chin up, He will be ok.

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and kind words. We are keeping an eye on what I eat and my blood glucose levels so if anything is wrong we can info the Dr. Via e-mail or talking to an oncology nurse at the hospital. I will take a printout of what we have so far with me on Wednesday.
I have been busy with classes for last week I just started College classes again. 4 this time so I go all week now.

I hope and pray that he does not have it. But, if he does, he's among some of the most wonderful people to go through it with. He also has the best, hands down, expert living in the same place as he is.
Hang in there, blue eyes !!!!!!!!!

Keep us posted on how things are going. I'd ask for an A1C when you're at the doctors next week, just to ease your mind.

Hope you don't have this disease.

I agree with Linda, have an A1c done, pretty simple and quick these days.

Hi Jason,

Carwy hasn't been on any meds since last year. The last meds he was on were Sulfa & Acyclovir. The last time he was on Dexamethasone (aka Steroids) was 2 years ago.

I'm thinking that his issues may be more directly correlated to his hemochromatosis? Not certain about this, but it took a year of weekly phlebotomies to get him back into a decent iron level range.

He has been losing weight, but as he's been doing so, his BGs still seem to be running a bit higher than the norm. Sunday, he was at 138 (highest that day) and almost every day, his fasting is at 120. He continues to have frequent urination & thirst. I shall continue keeping an eye on things & even have him testing BGs & counting (& documenting) his carb intake each day.

I'm kind of scratching my head on this, because while his BGs aren't outrageously high, they're still above the norm. He could be pre-D, or it could be some sort of infection trying to crop up.

He'll be going to get a CT Scan on Wed. (to re-check him post transplant), so perhaps while there he can request the nurses re-check his A1C. His last A1C (done last year) was 3.6, but it was skewed because he was undergoing weekly phlebotomies for his excess iron.

I want to thank everyone for all your input. Hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of this odd mystery soon. I think he'll be a-ok, and truthfully, if Diabetes is all he walks away from his Cancer journey with, I'll be rather pleased (& will be happy to assist in keeping him healthy ).

Here's a study that may answer the question: Relation between iron stores and non-insulin dependent diabetes in men: case-control study

It says that 53 - 80% of patients (men) with hemochromatosis develop non-insulin dependent diabetes, depending on how much excess iron is stored. Boo to that.

Hi girls!

I'm back in town, but while this cat's been away, Carwy's not been playing properly (no testing!) Uggg. What am I going to do with him!? lol

Anyway, I think Harold was right. It very well could have been a mild infection. He started having diarrhea & it may have been a bug or something. The worst part was every time it almost went away, it started coming back (i.e. due to eating certain things, or when he had to take the barium sulfate for his CT-Scan).

He's better now & he claims he's not as thirsty. However, I'd still like to double check his levels, just to be safe. He goes for a phlebotomy tomorrow, so hopefully, they'll re-check his A1C then. If not, he can e-mail his doctor to get one set up for next round.

On the CT-Scan front, the doctor called & said everything looks fine. Needless to say, I'm elated. The medical "waiting game" is the worst, but I truly appreciate & respect Carwy's doctor very much.

Thank you all for all your help, support & caring. As said before, even if Carwy does have the big D (or is even borderline), at least he's in great company with everyone here.

Great news Dewey and Carwy. The waiting game is the worst. My father is sure every time the doctor calls and wants a different test or to schedule his appointments that something is wrong. The wait between tests and results is just miserably long. Fortunately for you and for us, it has all been good news.
