| | | Carwy & the possibility of Diabetes Last night, Carwy complained of being thirsty & seemed to be urinating frequently. So, I tested his blood. He had salad for dinner, so it wasn't like there was much to it. He washed his hands & I checked him.
His BG was 191. Now, this may not seem outrageous, but to me, it's a bit high.
Also, throughout the night, he got up a couple of times to go to the bathroom...
This morning, he complained again of consistent thirst, so I checked him prior to breakfast (Fasting) & he was 120.
After breakfast (approx. 3 or 4 hours later), his BG was 140. I know these levels may not seem high, but I'm still concerned given the fact that his mom's a T2, his sister is T2 & he's currently experiencing some symptoms or "warning signs" of D (frequent urination, excessive thirst).
Just wanted to share...Not sure what to make of it (if anything) just yet, but I'll be watching over him to be safe.

| | I'll definitely keep an eye on him. I forgot to mention in the first post, that prior to this & after all his Cancer treatments & such, he had Hemochromatosis (genetic excess of iron in the blood) & Hemosiderosis (excess iron in the blood due to transfusions). His iron levels were brought down over the course of a year through phlebotomies, which seemed to help. Currently, he goes once a month to keep the levels in range.
I wonder if something along those lines didn't possibly spur what we're seeing now.
I will say that if he does have D, what better place to be than with folks who understand?

| | | Is this new Dewey? I tested my husband a few days in a row and he was a little high. I was bugging him to get it checked out, and it went away....everyday for a week, he was "normal", didn't even go high after a meal. I hope it isn't so, but glad he has you if it is.

| | | I don't know what diet restrictions he may have and what not, but maybe give him something with high carb in it, a high carb load, and fast, like maybe pancakes and syrup.....or a snickers bar with a coke or something like that, like I said I don't know what he eats and doesn't eat, but I would and test his blood sugar every hour for about four hours, If he does not drop into normal range, by four hours, something is not right.....
I am so sorry you all have to go thru this, but my thoughts and prayers are with you, Does he seem like he might be coming down with a sickness you know a non diabetic blood sugars can elevate to if you get sick or are getting sick......just a thought too....or maybe some of the medications he may be on is making him glucose intolerant for right now.....

| | | I really hope he doesn't have to deal with this after all he's already been though, but as you pointed out, those numbers are definitely high. Maybe now would be a good time to go to the doctor? |

| | | I'm going to have him e-mail his doctor. He goes down to have a CT-Scan (for the usual checkup post treatment/transplant) Wednesday, so perhaps while there, he can talk with the Oncology nurses about setting something up with his doctor.

| | | Might be something and might not. Now if he is still like this in a month I would get worried. He could be having a mild infection or something else going on. |
