Question Repairing Neuropathy Question?

Hey all,

I was just wondering about my neuropathy, 9 months ago I started looking at actually controlling my blood sugar as for 5 years prior to that my HBA1c has always been around 14 - 15 during which time I developed neuropathy in my knees and below.

The last 6 months I have really controlled my diabetes and now have a HBA1c of 6.3.

My question is this: I no longer suffer from any pain but how long does it take for neuropathy to become noticably better and maybe fully clear?

I was told as I made such radical chage to blood sugar it may get worse before getting better but after 6 months of almost great control would it still be healing or has it most likely healed as much as it is going to?

Nerves heal slowly. It took almost a two years of excellent blood sugar control for my neurpathy symptoms to go away. I've been on vitamin B6 for the last six months (25mg a day) and I do think it helps. My doctor did say that since nerves heal so slowly any changes might not be real obvious. Give it time and you might just one day go "oh wow yeah I do feel better!"...

I'd really like to hear some other opinions on this one. My endo told me that you can't heal nerve damage, that you can only stop the progresion by getting control of your bs, and treatt he SYMPTOMS of the neuropathy. Is that wrong, or does that maybe only apply to 'seniors' like me?

Well my neauropathy has certainly got better if anything, it was my doctor who said it can get better through good control.

If you have any ideas of things that are good then let me know

I am sure age has some effect on repairing neauropathy but don't quote me.

Does anyone have any opinions on this: could I possibly cure all my neauropathy with good control or will I most likely always have most of it there?

Some neuropathy can be reversed, I have experienced this personally. A few months ago I had this very annoying neuropathy on the bottom of my feet that felt like there was always something in my shoe. After getting good BG control it eased up some but never completely went away until I started taking Benfotiamine. I certainly can't say that Benfotiamine will work for everyone but it may be worth trying.

I've read that neuropathy can be reversed if it has not reached a certain stage. Also the person age and other health plays into this. So maybe some can be reversed while other nerves are lost.
I would think exercise/physical therapy would come into play as increased circulation, leg strength, and cardiovascular fitness would help the process. But i have found no medical information to back that up
